My Favorite Denim Jacket Now & Later

It’s not a stretch to think one of my favorite closet pieces is a denim jacket. I wear mine ALL the time and have had one as a go-to for years. It’s somehow just the perfect piece for warming up end-of-summer outfits now and of course layering for fall.

When I’m rocking a warm weather shorts outfit it just feels safer to have my trusty jacket at hand. Mornings are cool here in the PNW and I know the A/C is blasting in much of the rest of the country right now, so having that go-to jacket for cool restaurants, movie theaters and of course the grocery store is a must.

The structured yet hip, casual rocker feel of the jean jacket just adds the right chill vibe for me, from shorts to dresses to jeans. I compared a bunch last spring, but keep coming back to Levi’s ex-boyfriend trucker jacket as my favorite. Denim stuff from Levi’s is just reliably classic, durable and lasts from season to season.

Tank – Levi’s Graphic Crop Tank – This style tank for summer is my favorite. I love a muscle tee for flattering your shoulders, but the swing cut is also so cool…literally. This is cropped but hits at the perfect length with the high-waisted shorts or with high-waisted jeans for fall. Wearing size Small.

Shorts – Levi’s Wedgie Fit Shorts in Black Magic – Need the best booty-flattering shorts that also hold in the tummy? Look no further. Seriously. Wedgie fit is a fitting name, so don’t grab these for a long road trip. But for everyday or beach trips? YES. The inseam length is good, too, for when you want short shorts, but not too short, if you know what I mean. Size up one, in my opinion. Wearing size 28.

Tee – (similar) Madewell Easy Crop Tee – You can’t go wrong with an easy to wear striped tee. Layer it up for fall or rock it now on its own.

Jeans – AG Farrah High Waisted Skinny – LOVING these. My wash seems to be sold out right now, but these are a very similar color, and these are great if you want the knee distressing (on major sale right now)! TTS and stay up and make your butt look good! Wearing 27.

Boots – Steve Madden Petra Bootie – My new favorite boots. It took me a while to jump on the white boot train, but THESE. They’re not too bright white and they go with almost everything. They’re comfy in the footbed and not too high for wearing everyday. I was just fine in these through the airport recently on our trip to Denver. TTS.

Bag – Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack – You’ve seen it before. Love it still. This is the full sized. Here is the medium in the same light grey.

These late summer days are just a funny mix of golden and hot and fleeting. Do you feel that, too? And how do I have a Kindergartener now y’all??

Side note: Amazing murals are all over Portland, like this rhino by Josh Keyes. They add such a unique vibe to any city and as a fellow artist, I love that public art/artists are more respected these days, even in cities beyond Portland who have had less of a history with it. Rounding a corner to see these beautiful surprises that are tucked in all over is such a reprise from the everyday.
