So, after a few years in this biz, I’ve learned I have to do the slow roll into fall when it comes to fashion trends. Give me all the pumpkin everything as soon as September hits, but fall trends and I take longer to warm up to each other.
One trend I didn’t have to warm up to this year though was glen plaid. I instantly love it. I love the menswear nod, and the classic British vibe of a good black and white plaid. London knows how to take a good Scottish plaid and make it streetwear and cool. This was not a far reach for me, I know. I’m slightly obsessed with and will always be inspired by London style.
And what’s even more fun and mod than this great plaid by itself? Why, pairing it with a fun bright color, of course. I know I lean towards black and gray a lot, but I think that’s what I totally dig about this pairing…it’s a pop of fun color with still plenty of neutral black and white to make me happy.
Glen Plaid with Bright Shoes
Outfit Details
Treasure and Bond Plaid Oversized Blazer: I love this thing. It’s light enough to be comfortable now with a tee, and will layer well over a thin sweater later. It runs fairly TTS, but size up if you’re between sizes or want to wear a heavier under layer. Wearing a Small. (Sorry, this one sold out super-fast; check back for restocks. I’ve rounded up similar ones below).
H&M V Neck Tee (similar)
Wit & Wisdom Ab-Solution Ankle Skinny Jean: These are a great find for such a good price. The wash is great and the waist is comfy (I think it’s a bit taller waistband or something). I’m pretty picky about jeans as you know, and these are an awesome find. $68, wearing a size 6 regular. They run a bit small.
Seychelles Rehearse Pointy Toe Pump: Hooray! I thought mine was discontinued, but it looks like it wasn’t. This is the comfiest pump ever. They run a little large/stretch out with wear, so maybe consider sizing down a half size. SO soft inside and such a fun pop of color for any outfit.

We the Free Cali Tee: Love this shade of orangey-red and the distressing on this tee. They only had a medium when I got it in store. I wish I had sized down to a small, as it’s already a bit oversized, even though the site description says it runs small. This very similar-but-sleeveless version is better stocked.

Steve Madden Serena Mixed Media Sneakers: I adore these high tops. Because of the bling they seem to dress up my jeans a little more and high tops are just my fav. These run TTS and are such a fun fall find.

Hope over to Instagram @elletrain to see more outfit ideas, kitchen dance sessions (we kinda love IG stories for that) and which shade of black or gray I’m currently sporting. And don’t forget about LikeToKnow. It for easy peasy shopping of the looks I’m wearing!

I just bought a plaid jacket!! Literally yesterday!!! I’m planning on wearing it with a concert t, black jeans and booties! I’m obsessed with the yellow shoes you’re wearing!! As usual, your style is on point!
NICE! Thanks so much! I need a new concert tee!
I think the double breasted look is going to take some getting used to for me, but otherwise, I love both of these looks! That orange tee is perfect for fall. And I love those necklaces! Knocked it out of the park, as usual!
Thank you sweet lady!!
Just dug out a tweedy grey plaid blazer from 2011 and have ben contemplating what to do with it – love these ideas! I’m also thinking a slightly cropped mockneck with a pendant and skinny jeans could modernize it without looking office-y…
Ooh that sounds like an amazing take! Please share with us if you try it out!
Now this is a look Incan get behind. I loved the first one but audibly gasped at the second. Definitely a must have!
Dude. An audible gasp. You are amazing. So glad you like this!
Love this whole look on you and I’m swooning over the second outfit! SO GOOD!
Thank you so much!
These colors with that plaid are amazing! I have a pretty plaid skirt maybe I’ll be able to fit in and style this year!!!
Thanks, Hannah! Yes!
