TBH, I have hella conflicting feelings about this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
I was super-bummed that only one — yes, one — plus-size piece from my wish list was actually available in-store for me to try on. There were a few other items (I think five total that were actually plus-size pieces) that I was able to try on in store, and I didn’t walk away with as many pieces as I typically have in past years.
Even though I was bummed about the lack of options for plus-size shoppers in-store, I was able to try on quite a few tops and sweaters from the straight size section; my top half tends to mainly be an XL these days.
My takeaways from this year’s sale:
- While I absolutely love shopping in-store, if you’re plus size, just order online…
- I only like two pairs of jeans, but damn are they good. And don’t sleep on Kut From The Kloth — for the third year in a row, its jeans are my favorite.
- One word, Larroude… Oh, & the only bag I liked in the sale turned out to be an absolute banger!
Seriously Good Finds For Plus-Size Babes: A Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Try-On
I ended up finding a few seriously good tops, two pairs of jeans, and some pajamas that I’m confident I’ll be living in all fall and winter.
But the real MVP of the sale for me, though: the GHD hair straightener. It’s been 10 years since I’ve straightened my hair, and I was enticed by the price and reviews of GHD products for ultra-curly hair. I have to say, I still prefer my curls, but wow, am I so impressed with the results of my new GHD straightener.
OK, enough about my hair. Let’s get into some selfies!
P.S. When you’re done here, head over to our Ultimate Guide to the NSale, where we have all our top recs and even more try-ons.
1. Bright, Baby
One thing about me, I love a good lounge set. I love to be comfy and cozy at home, and admittedly I wear cozy and lounge-style clothing the most out of anything from my closet. While I tend to gravitate toward more-neutral colors, I opted for Open Edit’s gorgeous three-piece pajama set in the prettiest shade of periwinkle blue.
And if you’re wondering which pair of “shoes” will be my most worn this fall, it will 100% be these UGG slippers in Barbie pink. I thinking these vibrant colors will be the perfect dopamine dressing for the upcoming fall and winter months.
2. Can You Not?
Tee (Similar) | Jeans | Heels | Bag
Wow, just wow is all I have to say. Kut from the Kloth is one of the most affordable denim brands featured in the sale every year, and for the third year in row, its jeans are my absolute favorite. I don’t tend to wear cropped jeans and also don’t go for raw hemlines, but these wide-leg jeans are seriously perfection. They fit my curves so incredibly well, and I love how cute they look with graphic tees & heels.
3. The Tees
Before we dive into the two basic yet elevated tees that I snagged this year, I need to tell you all the tea about these wide-leg Madewell jeans. I’ve never tried Madewell’s jeans before, and these happened to be the only plus-size piece from my wish list that was actually available in-store. The fit, the wash, and the fact that they perfectly non-distressed are the perfect combination for me to decide that, yep, these needed to come home with me. They fit true to size, and as a 5’2″ girlie, they’re the perfect length for me.
Now for these tees… Every year I find that I pick up the exact same AllSaints long-sleeve. I love the cowl neckline, and the quality is always 10 out of 10. This year in particular, AllSaints took it to the next level with a sheer option that I’m obsessed with. It’s sheer enough that you can peek a little pop of color underneath, but not so sheer that you see everything. It’s a great way to dip your toe into the sheer trend this season.
The cap-sleeve tee pictured below on the right needs no explanation — it’s EILEEN FISHER. Outstanding quality, the perfect mock-neck length, and that effortless drape we all love. Simply put, it’s so damn good.

4. Puffy
Top | Vest (also at Free People)
A little puffy, a little fun pop of color. Free People definitely came through with a great puffer vest that’s perfect for those sideline soccer games, running errands and chilly morning hikes. I love the mustard yellow color, and think it looks amazing with neutral tones and black. The capped sleeves and horizontal stitching are an interesting upgrade to typical vests for fall. (This puffer vest is sold out at Nordstrom, but it’s available at Free People!)

5. Subtle Sexy
I live for a good bodycon dress, and I have to say, if you’re looking to feel subtly sexy, then this is the dress for you. This Good American long-sleeve dress has ruching on the side that accentuates an hourglass shape, and the deep-U neckline gives a little tasteful cleavage, and the best part is that the dress is double lined, which gives it a smoothing shapewear effect.
6. L.B.D.
I have a really hard time finding LBDs that are the right length for me. They’re either wayyy too short, and I spend the entire night yanking them down to avoid showing the public my goods, or they don’t accentuate my frame well. But, yet again, EILEEN FISHER knocked it out of the park this year with the V-neck T-shirt-style dress. It hugs my curves in all the right places and is the perfect length for me! P.S. For sizing references, I’m wearing an XL.
7. The Trench
Gahhhh, this Barbour trench coat gives me total Burberry vibes, and I’m in LOVE with it! While I wasn’t sure if I’d like any of the plus-size coats this year, I knew I wanted to give this a try because I’ve been on the hunt for a gorgeous trench coat for years. And let me tell you all, I finally found it! The interior has a really pretty patterned lining, and the trench features classic tortoiseshell buttons and a belt to cinch at the waist. I do think this jacket runs large — I typically purchase a 3X in Barbour jackets but will be exchanging for one size smaller. This will be a jacket that lives in my forever closet.
8. Get Sweaty, Betty
I’m a sporty lounge babe through and through, and Sweaty Betty has always been one of my favorite brands for winter wear. I have tons of great base layers for ski season from the Sweaty Betty, and I love its take on athletic and athleisure wear pieces. When I saw these cropped half-zip sweatshirts in the sale, I was so excited. By now I’m sure you all know I live in crop tops of all kinds, and this one in particular is my preferred length. It sits right above my hips and allows my midriff to peak out. I love both colors for very different reasons, and am having a hard time deciding which color to keep.
LEFT: Top | Bottoms | Sneakers // RIGHT: Top | Bottoms | Sneakers
Oh, and we have to talk about these shoes. I’ve tried at least 20 pairs of New Balance sneakers and really thought it was a sneaker brand that just wasn’t my vibe. Until I tried the 327s. They’re so freaking cool and are the kind of “dad sneaker” vibe that fits my personality. I love the teal accents paired with all the creamy neutral tones.
9. Cozy
As soon as I put on Free People’s chunky cable-knit sweater I immediately felt like I need to book a winter trip to Scandinavia. It’s giving me all the wintery Scandinavian vibes, and I love how the gorgeous cream color looks with my skin tone. It’s of course slightly cropped and very, very warm. It looks just as good with jeans as it does with wide-leg lounge pants!
10. Off To Bed
I typically am a SKIMS babe when it comes to PJs, but Nordstrom’s pajama set is a close second for me. As a babe who tends to run hot, I love when pajamas are ultra-thin and breathable. These pajamas are some of the most lightweight I’ve ever tried. I’ll be sleeping in these for the foreseeable future. For sizing reference, I’m wearing an XL.
