Arguably the most exciting part of this year’s NSale: denim. All of the usual brands are there (MOTHER Denim, Veronica Beard, FRAME, rag & bone, PAIGE, Re/Done, Levi’s), but there are a couple of new-to-me brands as well with seriously cool and unexpected pairs.

And while changing denim silhouettes have been, erhm, frustrating, I’ve started to appreciate a longer, looser silhouette. Nothing gives legs-for-days like full-length, wide-leg jeans. Happily, there are plenty in the NSale.

Seriously Cool Jeans (& A Denim Skirt) In The 2023 NSale…& How I’ll Be Wearing Them This Fall

I’m a girl in search of a new denim uniform and it must involve sneakers. While the NSale does have some good options, this Fall you’ll have to pry my adidas from my cold, dead hands (feet?), so my (non-NSale) Sambas, Gazelles and Gazelle Bolds are the ones featured in this article.

There’s a couple of pieces I want to call out real quick: This gorgeous wool & cashmere coat is almost as soft and drapey as those Max Mara coats (but less than half the cost), this Topshop cord bomber is a hidden gem in the sale, and these dainty little kitten heels are freaking cuuute in person – the leather is soft, too.

I’m roughly 5’3″, so many of these jeans (which come with a whopping 34″ inseam) will need to be hemmed (or hacked off with scissors). For clarity, the first photo is always of the un-hemmed jeans, just to give an idea of how they look before I attack. 😉

1. My Go-To Fall Uniform: Veronica Beard Wide Leg Jeans, Sneakers & A Soft Coat

If I *had* to pick a favorite jean…it’s these Veronica Beards. I have a pair from last year’s NSale and they’ve gotten so. much. use. These feel a little like magic jeans — they’re listed as 100% cotton, but they’re the softest, most comfortable 100% cotton jeans I’ve ever felt (I sized up one, FYI). I would’ve bet money that they had some sort of elastane built in. Anyway, I LOVE them. They will stretch out with wear, but in that 100% cotton, just-get-better-with-age way, not the baggy-by-noon that some stretchy jeans are known for.

The Vince cardigan, above, is made from a wool/cashmere blend and is thick, soft and deliciously cozy. Yet, it has juuuust enough structure (those LINES) to not overwhelm. Size down, tho. I especially love that the brown/gray color actually looks almost like a tweed (even if it feels nothing like tweed, thankfully).

Similar to the Vince coat-cardigan (coatigan) is the Nordstrom Signature Wool Coat. This beauty is bananas soft, and while it is definitely a coat, it’s…delicious. Walks that line a little bit.

2. A Fresh Pair To Wear Now: Rails The Getty High-Waist Crop Jeans

So THESE were the big surprise jean of the sale! Who knew Rails made denim? And who freaking knew it was so good? I love the barrel-ish shape, and the almost awkward length. These jeans look like rigid jeans in person, but they’re actually a pretty great blend of cotton and lyocell.

Because they’re at that cool-girl awkward length, I was worried about sneakers. But nope: sneaks check out.

The sneakers on the left (above) are from the NSale and are legit running shoes. I’m excited to take them for a spin (the cushioning is great). That said, they’re pretty cute in their own right, too.

I also played around with dressing up these jeans. They show off seriously cool kitten heels nicely, and would look cool at the office for a casual Friday. I especially love the proportion play with cropped blazer / cropped jeans.

I also wanted to figure out how to style these jeans with boots. Since they’re so wide, any sort of tall boot will slide on up there nicely. So why not…cowboy boots?

3. A Perfect Light Wash: Pistola High-Waist Palazzo Wide-Leg Jeans

These jeans were the other surprise jean of the Nordstrom Sale. It’s hard to get a light-wash right (MOTHER Denim, for example, almost always goes too light) but Pistola nailed it. And how cute is this whole outfit (once I “hemmed” the jeans) with that oversized cord bomber? One of my favorite pieces in the NSale.

Since I do happen to have favorites (a certain FRAME tank top, a special Vince cardigan-coat)…I had to try them all on together.

4. Frame Le High Two-Button Flare Jeans

There are several dark-wash flares in the sale, but these are my favorites simply because of that waistband detail. In short: these jeans give me a waist where I have none. They’re also super-stretchy and comfortable and sooo sexy.

So why not pair them with a blazer-as-a-top?

But obviously my usual trick — tee, soft coat/cardigan — also works. (And note the length: these have a whopping 35″ inseam. I’ve folded them under for the photos; I might actually get these hemmed for real.)

5. The Sexiest Jeans: Veronica Beard Beverly Yoke Front Wide-Leg Jeans

These are such fun date-night jeans. They’re sexy and unexpected, and so much fun to wear. They also come with a 34″ inseam, which is nice for those who want to wear heels.

I also found that you could dress them up for work with a simple cropped cardigan (Vince’s, below, is great) and the button-on-button thing is actually kind of cool.

6. For A Sailor Moment: PAIGE Patch Pocket High-Waist Ankle Wide-Leg Jeans

These jeans are so much fun. They’re soft, stretchy, hug the bum, and overall are such an easy win. They work as full-length jeans if you’re petite, but would look just as cute cropped, too.

  2. Well…..you can make everything look exciting! I was down on the sale, but you have refocused me. Gave it life.
    Any word from Nordstrom on restocks? It’s the morning of ambassador (very early on) and a lot of the denim is sold out, and all the Frank and Eileen.

  3. I’ve loved all your Nsale coverage so thank you! Like you I’m 5’2” so some of my new pants will have to be shortened! Would love to see an updated post from y’all, covering all the different styles of jeans and hem lengths, it’s so hard!
