This fall, I wanted to finally invest in a great pair of hiking boots, but that’s the thing with investing in something to wear…I need things that are not one-trick-ponies…and hiking boots can sure seem like they are just that. Important for hiking, yes, but it’d be nice to wear them more often, too.

Here in the Pacific Northwest one can actually get away with wearing hiking gear almost everywhere, but that’s a been-there-done-that look and I definitely don’t always want to look like I’m headed to the trail. Let’s just say it’s done a lot here. And you know me, I always want something more interesting than the norm — and something different. So, I decided to style up my new fabulous Danner boots into some everyday looks that are comfy and casual and cool and very me. I’ve been seeing hiking boots everywhere and styled even with dresses, so I had to give it a whirl!

Hiking Boots For Everyday: 7 Outfit Ideas

1. Hiking Boots + Wide-Leg Jeans & A Graphic Sweatshirt

Love this look. Here is one of the few outfits I think could still work with taller boots. For most of these, I like to keep the ankle showing, but with the wide-leg pants you could go either way. Choose a cool sweatshirt that’s sporty or fierce to mix up the hiking vibe with another style.

2. Hiking Boots + Leopard Print & Trusty, Black-Washed Skinny Jeans

Again, mix it up when it comes to genres…put glam/tough leopard print with your hiking boots and jeans for a more interesting, unexpected mix. I LOVE this outfit and will be wearing it this fall for sure.

3. Hiking Boots + All Ivory (My Current Fav!)

Um, hi. I’ll be living in this one, please. This worked out so well. I’m way into monochromatic looks these days and this ivory just shows off the beautiful leather boots in a really modern way.

4. For Pre/Post Workout? Hiking Boots + Leggings & a Hoodie (I’m Honestly Not Sure About This One)

Ehhh…this seemed better in my head. I’m not mad about it though, and swap out the glossy leggings for regular leggings and you’d probably see me actually hiking in this. Or maybe swap out the hoodie for a flannel and just go full-on hiker-chic with faux leather leggings. Haha.

5. Hiking Boots + Cozy Sweater Dress & Boyfriend Jacket Work Great

You may have spied this in my recent sweater dress styling post, but I was pleasantly surprised with how this came together. This dress is so cozy and the boots just add that wonderfully interesting vibe of unexpected that I’m always searching for.

6. When In Doubt, Hiking Boots + A Black Jumpsuit

This new jumpsuit is really rad. It’s made of sustainable fabric and from a great company called Outerknown, who are making real headway on that front. I’m sure I’ll try more of their items at a later date.

7. Hiking Boots + Cozy Layered Sweatshirt & Go-To Ripped Jeans FTW

And, kind of a classic go-to with a sweatshirt and ripped jeans, but I still like the combo here. The extra crop on the jeans makes it feel more modern. I wore this to school pickup this week, and felt quite comfy and prepared for our rainy afternoon.

I tried to only link to really similar styles of boots, with the exception of the rad white and snake print pairs. I find the lower the hiking boot is on the ankle, the more flattering it is for styling with everyday looks like these above. If you liked the wide leg jeans though, again, you could get away with a higher boot.

I found some similar gold laces to the ones I have that you could simply swap out for the pair that comes with the boots. Yay! I like that classic look of the work boot laces, personally, and find them easier to wear than a brighter color.

If you decide you need a great boot and go with the Danner Mountain Light, you will not be disappointed. They are high quality and you can get them resoled at any point…essentially the last hiking boot you’ll need. Plus, you’re supporting a Portland brand! Love that. Let me know if you have styled up your hiking boots for more everyday wear and what you pair them with!

  1. Ah, this is why I love having PNW represented here! I pulled out my hiking boots this week – totally legit daywear 😉 Happy, dry, comfy feet! My typical weekend outfit during the cool, wet months is in the vein of your second and last. I personally favor cuffed skinny jeans with a peek of fun socks, because I’m just that much PNW, lol.

I like the leggings! Don’t doubt that one. I’m going to try that asap.

I never would have thought to join with a jumpsuit, but it definitely works with that one.

I’m really liking the cream outfit, too. Another combo I wouldn’t have considered. Love that sweater, too.

  2. Laura, I’d like to make a photo suggestion – if you were to look straight up at yourself while shooting, instead of down into your screen, the camera would also tilt up, perpendicular to the ground. I think that somehow the proportions of your outfits don’t show up quite as well with the camera at that slight angle – and your lovely face doesn’t make it into any pictures either!

  3. I actually love the leggings outfit! I’ve been wanting to rock that exact outfit, but living in Southern CA, no real need for legit hiking boots. I like the cheaper alternative though!

  4. These are great ideas on how to wear hiking boots! This post comes especially in handy when you’re traveling but need to bring boots for a hike. They’re so bulky and heavy it doesn’t make sense to pack them… but sometimes you don’t want to look like you’re fresh off the mountain when you’re traveling en route. : )

  5. So many great tips for styling hiking boots, and your all ivory outfit is my favorite! Your hiking boots are a lot cuter than mine though, so I doubt I’ll be wearing mine for anything other than hiking anytime soon, haha.
