I love trying new things. And lately, that new thing has been full-length straight leg jeans. I am a huge fan of MOTHER denim and these High-Waisted Rider Skimp jeans are so good…but…do I love them with flat shoes?
Full-Length, Straight Leg Jeans With Flats? Undecided.
I adore MOTHER high-waisted, straight leg jeans — even full-length — with my cropped blazer and red heels from this recent post. It wound up being such a great combo that makes me feel so pulled-together and fab. But let’s be real, I am not sporting heels that often these days, so I wanted to give these jeans a go with my go-to summer shoes…Vans and sandals.
Straight Leg Jeans With Classic Vans Checkerboard Slip-Ons: It Works
I think the Vans work here. I like them. They fit with the baggy vibe of the full length, straight leg denim and they have just enough of a sole that the jeans don’t look too dumpy at the bottom. They hearken back to my youth without being too flared or too (thank god) low rise.
Also…that jacket, right? Yeah. More details below!
Straight Leg Jeans With Sandals: The Outfit That Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time
So…you know when you try something on and think it’s great, and then later you realize something was just off? That was this outfit with the straight leg jeans and Pons sandals for me. I don’t know what happened between my house and the front steps, but the jeans look baggier at the bottom here than they did inside. Haha.
I am still getting used to this full-length jean thing, too, and flat sandals will always be trickiest with this style. Even the Vans above have a little more height than my favorite flat sandals do. I did try these jeans cuffed, but it’s just. too. much. cuff. SO I left them long here…
The side view when I have my heel ever-so-slightly lifted isn’t bad, heh. But yeah, gonna have to revisit this attempt with a different pair of shoes. And while I also love this puffy sleeve top, I don’t love it with this whole look either. Maybe if I had pushed up the sleeves for a bit more casual vibe? Idk. I loved it with the midi skirt here. Whew. Some days and some outfits are just a bust, y’all, even for those of us who do this on the reg.
Shop MOTHER The High-Waisted Rider Skimp Jeans
I don’t know if I mentioned it previously, but I’m wearing a 28 in the jeans above and they’re just a bit tight. (I’ve gone up a size lately, but these do relax a bit with wear.) Size up in MOTHER denim, especially if you’re between sizes. I carry my weight in my midsection so with these really high-rise jeans sizing up doesn’t hurt.
So stay tuned for my new series: What Shoes To Wear With These Jeans (that is forever our focus here at The Mom Edit, no?) There might be some chopping off of hems, but I do love the distressing at the bottom of these MOTHER jeans, so there’s always that issue.
And I feel like being short should come with a complimentary degree in how to distress jeans you have had to cutoff or hem. Anyone else? K.
The Rad Jacket That Almost Stole The Show
NOW — back to this ’70s-style bomber jacket I’ve had for months but recently started grabbing all the time. It makes me feel rad and happy at the same time. I adore it for that little mood boost I need on certain days.
Jacket fit notes: It runs small though, so size up. I tried the small and had to return for a medium I’m wearing here. It’s handmade, small batch from ClassicRockCouture on Etsy, and I’m in love. I recently got one of their sleeveless baseball tees I adore, too! Thanks to Sara of LiveLoveSara for intro-ing me to this rad company!
You win some, you lose some, but I’m definitely still winning with this jacket.
