An Easy Spring Outfit and An Everyday Adventure

I have a poster framed in our guest room that reads “I do believe it’s time for another adventure.” I crave exploring, travel and finding new places. I’m always amazed when I find out about an incredible new spot right here at home.

How did I not know about this epic location here in Portland? Gorgeous, right? It’s called Rocky Butte and it was the site of a little day adventure for me. Yes, a rainy day adventure, but fortunately the downpours held off while I looked around and snapped a few pictures and took a minute to myself to clear my head.

I want to be a laid-back person, a laid-back mom. I really do. I’m not overly emotional most of the time and I approach a lot of life in a pretty matter-of-fact way, but I’m a perfectionist and a serial do-er. Idle hands and all, I guess. I have a frantic need to check off that to-do list everyday.  And I have a bad habit of making myself feel guilty if I don’t get through that list. I mistakenly think because I enjoy my work or because I’m not going 100mph every second of the day that I don’t need to set aside time to myself. It’s so hard not to listen to those voices all the time, right?

But, on this morning, I ventured out, ignored those voices and that to-do list and just enjoyed a spectacular view of the city I love. Yes, I’ll bring Sienna here sometime, but this day was just for me…

Epic, Pacific Northwest gorgeousness. I mean, look at all that beautiful moss? I live in the right place.

It’s funny…for a person who spends a lot of time in her head (hello introvert/Aquarian/analyzer) I sure do seem to ignore myself. This will be my spot for escape now whenever I need a little perspective or need to reconnect with that inner self I’m so distant from much of the time. Sometimes that’s the biggest adventure of all – especially after motherhood, it seems – is taking that scary step back towards knowing yourself.

Outfit Details

TopJCrew Factory Striped Linen Off-the-Shoulder Top – Love this top. Sadly, the blue is selling out. There’s also a lovely pink and white striped version. Loving this one from Madewell that is similar, too. Wearing size Medium here, for reference.

JeansFree People Reagan Button Front Jean – Loving these. The exposed button fly is a cute detail and of course I love the raw hem. The wash is great as is the fit. Wearing size 27, for reference.

SandalsSole Society Odette Sandal in Cracked Gold (c/o) – These are super feminine and cute. A very comfy flat sandal for everyday. Probably not enough cushion in the footbed for heavy walking though. Love the ankle strap and the scalloped edge.

BagSole Society Tara Bag (c/0) – This bag is seriously great. I love that it fits right into the oversized trend this spring, but it’s comfortable to carry. The braid detailing is lovely and the tassel is such a nice touch. It holds a seriously great amount of stuff for a day bag or a light weekender. It’d be a good diaper bag, too. This day I fit my sneakers, clothes for Barre3, wallet, cosmetics, phone and camera more than comfortably. Loving.

Jacket – (old) Similar – Abercrombie & Fitch Raincoat – Love this! It’s so so cute and I love how it’s a bit cropped but longer in back. It looks like a solid raincoat, too. The color is also fab. This one at Macy’s is also cute, similar to mine, and on sale.

  1. I recently tried LOFT grey skinny jeans for curvy people and I adore them. They are amazing and I think I paid only $60 on sale. I can count on you, Laura, for great suggestions. Long live the West Coast 🙂

  2. It was 46 degrees when I was running around Portland today!! You must have been freezing! (I’m still wearing my Sorels and down coat)

  3. I highly recommend the pull on legging jeans. I bought a pair from old navy for $25 to try out the trend. They are so comfortable and are great for people who have issues with waist sizes not fitting quite right
