I’m a long-time fan of Express. I’ve been featuring them for years for everything from their sequin dresses and leggings to their vegan leather jackets and puffer coats, not to mention their men’s suits–Zack’s closet has more than a few of those. But right now we’re not exactly wearing any of those things. No sequins for me, no suits for Zack…unless we stage an at-home party of two one of these nights (which gives me an idea, actually…). What we’re really craving right now is comfort–in all forms, but especially in what we wear. I want to look put together, but I want to be comfortable.
EXPRESS Is On It: A Comfy #StayAtHome Capsule Wardrobe
So when Express reached out and asked us to take a look at their spring line, I was so excited to see all of their #StayAtHome options. From their stay at home must-haves to their work from home shop and their date night in edit, they’re killing this whole quarantine life fashion. I gotta say, I was inspired. So I took a little of this, a little of that, and put together an easy capsule wardrobe that can take you from couch to work meeting to date night in with basics that are easy to mix and match. (And you’ll be able to wear them long after this quarantine is lifted.)
Start With These Super High-Waisted Ankle Jeans
Don’t let the “super” part scare you. These jeans are so ridiculously comfortable, and the high-rise helps hold everything in without being tight and rigid (they’re made with stretch-infused fabric so they’re super-flexible). They run true to size (I’m wearing a 6 & am usually a 6/28), and come in three different lengths: 25″, 28″ and 30″ (I’m wearing the short inseam here and am 5’4.”)
I wanted to include a picture of the bra cami pulled all the way down because I always find it helpful to know exactly how long they are. In this case, I can wear it kind of pulled up like in the pics above, or long and stretched out like this (how I might wear it with leggings and a longer sweater). The straps are adjustable, and I love that a bra isn’t necessary with this top! I’m planning on getting more colors because it’s such a great layering piece.
Add This Dolman Sleeve Top
I love this top. The drapey fit is perfection and the fabric is nice and lightweight (it’s semi-sheer, so I layered it over the cami above). The banded hem gives it a little bit of structure, and I love that you can wear it on or off the shoulder. Super-comfortable and flattering. Easy.
Or Pair With An Easy Tank
My favorite thing about these tops is that they’re not skintight but don’t look sloppy either. They drape nicely over the belly and then have that cinched hemline that gives them shape. The v-neck is flattering and the straps are wide enough to cover regular bra straps. The semi-sheer version (on the right) also comes in a gorgeous bronze color and the gray on the left is available in a ton of colors here.
And Add a (Comfy) Blazer For That Zoom Meeting
This blazer is perfection. It’s the perfect thing to throw on when you want to look put-together and be comfortable. It’s slightly oversized, but I stuck with my usual size small and it was perfect. It has a soft lining, but still manages to be lightweight–not stiff or overly structured. I’ll be getting lots of use out of this one, both at home and once we’re able to venture out again!
Try These Joggers: Think Sweatpants, But Dressy
Uhh, dressy sweatpants? Yes. These. They’re like the perfect hybrid of classic sweatpant joggers and dress pants. I went with the reviews and sized down to a small and they’re perfect. Add a comfy tee, tank or sweatshirt for an easy loungewear outfit that can go from the couch to errands with the addition of a denim jacket.
Add A Blazer For A Night Out (Or In, For Now)
I love this monochromatic look. (And while the colors aren’t exactly the same, I think it works to combine them in this way.) You still have the comfort of loungewear in a fun, dressy twist that’s perfect for date night (especially an at-home date night). Add fun heeled sandals if you want to get really fancy.
A Super-Soft & Comfy Sweatsuit
The material of this sweatsuit is SO soft. The joggers are high-rise and they fit around the waist without gaping while still leaving enough room for a booty and hips. The sweatshirt is that perfectly cropped length that goes really well with higher rise pants or jeans without being so short so you’re flashing skin. I liked tucking just a bit of the hem into the jeans.
