I always have been and always will be up for dressing up. Always. Give me alllll the sequins. But the problem now is that I don’t necessarily have a ton of reasons to dress up. But . . . who says we need a reason? My sister-in-law Anne and I got dressed up and drank champagne at home the other weekend. For no reason. I’m trying to get out of the habit of “saving” things for a special occasion. Life is short. Use the china. That kind of thing.
If you’re still not convinced, Express (my go-to for all things fun and flashy) is having a HUGE 40% off everything sale. That’s where I snagged this party dress (currently under $65) and Anne’s sequin leggings (under $50). I’d say that justifies a little more fancy in our lives, yeah? And champagne…that too.
Last New Year’s Eve, my sisters and I took our time getting ready. We turned up the music and popped
bottles a bottle of champagne. My sister-in-law Amber (who owns a salon in North Carolina) did everyone’s hair (she’s amazing) while I was on makeup duty. When we (finally) made it to the party we were going to, we got separated, there were way too many people, and the line for drinks was way too long. We ended up back at my house where we turned the music up (I’m kiiind of serious about playlists), watched the ball drop on TV, and danced. Oh, and we didn’t have to wait in line for drinks. So this year, that’s what we’re planning on doing. An at-home dance party. BUT . . . staying home doesn’t have to mean sweats and no makeup. We’ll take our time getting ready while blasting music and drinking champagne . . . all for an at-home dance party. And there WILL be sequins.
Tunic Top (40% off): My favorite top to pair with leggings . . . available in a ton of colors.
Sequin Leggings (40% off) (also in velvet and in this awesome pattern): These sequin leggings are actually pretty comfortable – there’s a lot of stretch to them and the sequins don’t itch like crazy. SO fun to wear.
Boots: Shana convinced me to get these years ago because they go with everything from jeans to dresses to leggings and they’re comfortable. So obviously Anne wanted to borrow them.
Clutch: I love this Rebecca Minkoff clutch . . . it goes with everything. LOVE.
Dress (40% off): Love the sequins . . . there’s also a crewneck version and long sleeve version of this dress. (Perfect for New Years!)
Boots (similar): Over-the-knee black boots are a necessity in the winter here. Regular pumps aren’t going to cut it.
Earrings: Nickel and Suede earrings are my favorites . . . lightweight statement earrings made from leather (super comfy!).
Clutch: (similar) Rent the Runway is THE place to go for fancy dresses and accessories for truly special occasions like weddings. I love all the reviews to help deciding!
