Foolproof (and Cool) Holiday Style For Guys

Have a ‘thing’ coming up, this holiday season? A little something-something that might require your guy to branch out past his usual weekend wear? Yeah – me too. My challenge is trying to get Mike to hit that sweet-spot: dressed up, but not Going To Work. Going Out outfits have gotta be different than Going To Work, ya know? Not that I’ll ever complain about seeing that man in a suit (swoon), but…he needs a good in-between that’s cool.

For holiday parties — or any party, really — we like a man to look sexy without that 9-to-5 vibe. Dressed up style + insanely cool clothes = Bonobos.

Two Holiday Outfit Ideas For Your Guy

So after a bit of thought, my sister Scotti and I (with the help of the guys) came up with two outfit formulas that use that office attire…but perk it up a bit for the holidays. Here’s what we’re loving:

Outfit Idea 1: Statement Pants

It turns out that burgundy cords are a perfect counterpart to the usual sweater-and-tie situation. Other options? Brightly colored jeans or khakis, or a cool, plaid, trouser. You can take this look up a notch with a dress shirt in an unexpected pattern (Bonobos makes the best ones). Mike’s latest fav, for example, is this Bonobos dress shirt with a bunch of half-naked skiers.

Mike’s Outfit Details

sweater: Bonobos Washable Merino V-Neck Sweater (size M for reference) – this is one of Mike’s most-worn sweaters. Not only does it work over a shirt & tie, but a black v-neck sweater is pretty sexy worn alone, too.

shirt: Washed Button Down Shirt in Gray Skiers (size M, slim) – These come in a ton of cool patterns, three different fits, and three different lengths.

tie: Silk Necktie – Black Tie, Tiny White Dots. This tie is a classic.

pants: Bonobos Corduroy Dress Trousers (size 32, slim) – I love how fancy these look (but they’re still just cords). Am dying to turn these into a monochromatic outfit — WE WILL SEE.

Outfit Idea 2: Go Monochromatic

On Scotti’s husband, Zack, we pulled together office-worthy pieces in all the same tones. This monochromatic look packs some serious style, yet it doesn’t scream 9-5. Monochrome outfits look best when there’s some varying texture and a bit of a print. And don’t worry about matching the colors perfectly — this look actually works best with similar shades, not exact shades.

Zack’s Outfit Details

pants: Stretch Wool Dress Pants (size 34/32 slim, Midnight Blue) – Zack loves these pants. He’s wearing the slim fit (the second narrowest fit of four options). With five lengths and four fits, it’s virtually impossible not to find the perfect fit.

shirt: Jetsetter Stretch Dress Shirt (size 16/33 slim, White Talworth Triangle) – There are so many ways to customize the fit of these machine-washable shirts — choose from seven neck sizes, five sleeve lengths and three different fits. I can’t get over all of the fun unique patterns Bonobos comes up with (check out Grey Unicorn Magic).

sweater: Cotton-Cashmere Shawl Cardigan (size Large, Navy Marl) – Cardigans are super-easy and versatile — they look equally good over a white t-shirt or nice button up. Zack fell in love with this cashmere cardigan if any of you are interested in the real deal!
