Back-to-School Capsule for Girls: Fun Prints & Bold Graphics

This mama has always adored picking out rad clothes for my girlie. It’s been fun because she’s only just now, at 8-years-old, started to have strong opinions about what she wears…and thankfully that still includes a love for great prints and bold colors. Yay!

Cool Girls’ Clothes In A Fun Back-To-School Capsule Wardrobe

Sienna has also always been a pro at pattern mixing and I hope she never shies away from having fun with that. Her fun, bold style was the inspo for this little back-to-school capsule, but we did mix in a few neutral pieces in case your kiddo doesn’t like rocking print-on-print. Heh.

Omg, and we JUST picked up these killer Adidas for her at Nordstrom the other day after we finished this roundup, so don’t sleep on those if you need some comfy fall sneaker boots that go with everything (in toddler & little kid sizes)! Now let’s get to the cuteness…

My rad assistant Nova helped pull together this lovely capsule wardrobe filled with very-Sienna pieces. So cute. It features a great balance of fun colors and patterns but with some classic denim pieces and a few other really wearable basics mixed in. Below is the lovely capsule collection, and I’ve laid out four outfit combos to get ya started!

21 Leopard Dress

4 Back-To-School Outfit Combos

Outfit 1: Floral Overalls For Early Fall

Floral Boden overalls? STAHP. S needs this stat. Don’t worry mamas, these rad Doc Martens have a side zip for easy on-off. Love the little crisscross detail on the 3-pack shirts, too. It’s all so cute!

Outfit 2: Black & White With A Rainbow Pop

That little white skirt is just the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen. We typically pop these bike shorts under skirts and dresses because I have a little gymnast who is on the monkey bars every day.

Outfit 3: Leopard & The Comfiest Sneaks

You know I can’t resist a great animal print, so I’ve already added that Gap dress to cart for my gal. I love wearing my Adidas with dresses, so I thought they’d be so cute for her, too! Sienna is pretty picky about shoes and she has worn various pairs of Superstars for years. They are great kiddo shoes. They tend to run a little bit big, on me and her.

Outfit 4: Cozy Panda Vibes

Cozy and cute, this outfit…and as a fan of black pieces for my own closet, I totally dig them for kiddos. I can convince Sienna to get black shoes, like these Vans, as long as the rest of her pieces can be fun, whimsical and bright.

High five yet again to my fab intern Nova who nailed these great capsule wardrobe picks. The cutest stuff! I hope it gets the ideas flowing for y’all for some lovely looks as school starts up again.

If you need a lunchbox update too, we just got this one and it’s fab! You stick the whole thing in the freezer so no worrying about losing those freezer pack inserts. One. Less. Thing. To. Deal with is always a good idea at the start of any school year, much less this one.

Wishing you the best of everything from me and Sienna as you start the year back, friends! Hugs and solidarity comin’ atcha from Portland…

  1. I love all of this. Question: How long does it take to break in a pair of kids’ Docs? And what are those awesome rainbow kicks in the top pic?

    • Ah good question. I don’t think the material is typically as stiff as the adult versions, at least in the couple of pairs we’ve had before. The rainbow shoes are older Mini Boden, but they do have a couple of cute sneakers rn, too! https://shopstyle.it/l/bwEuc

  2. I love this so much!! I don’t have a daughter young enough for this, and my grandchild is a boy, but I can see adapting this capsule for me since I have a similar style with many of these items already in my closet like the jean jacket, vans leopard tshirt dress. I also love the awesome rainbow kicks from the top pic!!

    • We try to get them in throughout the year! I have a teen girls capsule coming up and hopefully we can get someone with boys to do the same!
