Laura’s Crazy Portland Weather #myeverydayedit

IMG_9915 copy

Hello from scorching Portland. Whew. I guess I was complaining too much about wanting summer weather back…it’s back this weekend in full force…as in, the high yesterday and today has been 98 degrees, y’all (can I blame Nick Lachey?) Thank goodness for the recent romper purchases I made for both S and I…we are as cool as we could be without going out on the town in our swimsuits (I was seriously tempted since it was already 86 before noon!)

Here we took my BFF from high school and her family to see the Tilicum Bridge for some gorgeous (sweltering) Portland views. We did a rushed “oh yes, gorgeous!” take-a-quick-pic walk on the bridge before we headed to Powell’s Books for the best book selection and, most importantly, good AC, which most homes here are not equipped with (including ours).

Keep reading for the rest of the nutty Portland weather #myeverydayedit…

On me:

RomperGap Halter Romper – I love this romper. I have trouble finding one pieces that fit me in the inseam/rise. This comes in petite and tall for a much better fit than most. It has pockets, too. Wearing Petite Medium (a small might have worked though…runs a bit large). (40% off right now with code FORME)

SandalsMatisse Rosie Flat Sandal – These I snagged from the Nordstrom sale and I love them. They are handmade in a lovely leather that will stretch to conform to your foot. They run a teeny bit narrow, but again, I can tell this is a leather that will stretch just enough. They are beautiful.

BraceletBetsy & Iya Tilicum Crossing Cuff Bracelet – Betsy & Iya make some of my very favorite jewelry. They are a local Portland company and make really rad earrings and bridge bracelets for each of the Portland bridges (so cool). Incidentally, I am wearing the bridge bracelet that matches the bridge we are standing on. Aw.

BagRebecca Minkoff Mini Julian – Hard to find the mini, but available here in a gorgeous port color. Or get one size up in Putty on sale!! Omg. Gorgeous.

On Sienna:

RomperTarget Floral Romper – I mean, I could not pass this up. I feel like 3 might be the last year she can wear a romper. Maybe? They are so freaking cute on littles. Runs a little long. S is wearing a 3T.

HatTarget Paper Braid Hat – Yep. A matching hat…dying of cuteness.

SandalsSaltwater Original Sandal

TattoosColor In Tattoo Party – Sienna got these for her birthday from her aunt and uncle. They are super fun!

You Knew There’d Be Overalls

This you will have seen over on Instagram if you follow me (@elletrain). Love this outfit SO much I have to remember which people I’ve worn it around so as not to wear it around the same ones every time. Haha. Does anyone else do that? I fear I’m really becoming the overalls girl…Sienna actually calls them overgirls and it’s my most favorite mix-up of hers evah.

The Day It Was Quite Cool But I Was In Denial and Still Wore Sandals

Alternate title: When Your New Hair Color Matches Your House. Haha. I decided to go a little lighter for the summer. It took a bit for me to get used to, but now I’m loving it. On this day I wanted it to be warmer than it was…so I wore sandals.

Jacket-(similar) Gap 1969 Icon Denim Jacket – I love their denim jackets.

The Game-Changer Cardigan

We talk about cardigans here on The Mom Edit and how, though useful, they can kind of make an outfit just…blah. Well, I feel like the way to avoid this but still benefit from a cardigan’s purpose in life is to find a cool long cardigan. This one I love because it’s lightweight, striped (I’m obsessed, yes), and long. It looks nice here with boyfriend jeans and adds interest to this outfit, but it also works so fabulously with shorts and cutoffs to keep you a bit warmer and a bit covered. The linen blend of this make it’s special, too.

The Easy Shoes On-Repeat Right Now

Hi. I’m Laura. I love old school Birkenstocks. No, I don’t wear them with socks, but I wear them 80% of the time right now. Like, I think I forced myself to put some other shoes on for these outfits so y’all didn’t think I was quite so crunchy. Haha. Also, if you haven’t tried Native Shoes (what Sienna is wearing) for your kiddos, do it. Best. WAY cuter than Crocs, IMO, and still durable and wonderful for getting messy or for water play.

For When You Really Want To Wear PJ’s But You Should Try a Little

Joggers and wedges…besides overalls this is my other favorite go-to outfit. I love joggers, but it is a little tricky to make them look put-together. Enter these Sorel wedges…YES. They are the right amount of sporty and, dare I say, sassy? I don’t know. I just like them and the bit of height makes the joggers look better. Throw on a cool necklace and it looks like you’re all fancy but really you’re just wearing sweatpants. Mwahaha. Yup.

Joggers– (similar) Maddy Washed Jogger Pants – P.S. Don’t get joggers too big. Most will stretch a bit through the day and these are something you don’t want looking too baggy.

WedgesSorel Joanie Mesh Wedge Bootie – I LOVE these. They also come in a cool white. They do run a tiny bit short in length. Super comfy like all of the other Joanie line of shoes though. And the mesh keeps feet cool.

Your Turn

Per usual, you guys are sharing some insane photos over on Instagram in the #myeverydayedit feed. Check out these lovelies!

(clockwise, from top left)

@rabeanco: I adore your tone on tone photo…that top color, that bag, that wall. Perfection.

@livelovesarablog: I’m obsessed with your lip color! She was kind enough to share what it is… Maybelline On Fire Red Thanks for details lady! Love that blouse so much, too.

The next is hers, also, because, I mean…the top knot and the dress knot. So spot on. Sometimes I get sad I don’t have long hair to wear like this. Gorgeous.

@ruthyannie: You are looking so fabulous for date night. I mean! Gorgeous dress, mama.

Thank you guys for continuing to participate in #myeverydayedit I really love perusing through your fab ideas and photos. Keep ’em coming…I’m running out of hot weather outfit ideas…

  1. LOVE the Levi’s!! May I ask what size they are? Levi’s can be tricky!

The lighter blonde looks great on you too! How frequently do you have to get your hair trimmed and colored? I love your sassy hair. I just finished chemotherapy in April and am anxiously waiting for my hair to grow back. If I like it as a pixie I’m thinking I might just keep it that way, but am wondering about the upkeep. Thanks!

    • Oh wow. Major congrats on finishing chemo lady. Yes. The Levi’s run big. I’m wearing a 28 here and they are baggy boyfriend style. I do think a 26 would fit but it’d be more of a straight leg style. And the upkeep on a pixie is pretty often. I get a trim every 3 weeks or so and a full cut every 6 weeks. I adore getting my hair cut though so it’s like therapy for me!

  2. Love the looks-are the Levi’s tapered? They look so comfortable yet a bit edgy too. I am not sure they would work as I have larger calves.

And the other thing? Love that you included Sara from Live Love Sara- I love her style!

  3. The long cardi is also great for when you wake up — you know, when you go to bed and it’s 80 in your room because it was 100freakingdegrees all weekend, but when you wake up it’s in the 60s….but you slept in a tank and tiny shorts…the long cardi is an excellent lightweight robe. 🙂

    • Yes! It’s he perfect robe type piece. Great for travel and I’m thinking great on an airplane this time of year. I’ll test it out this week!

  4. Thank you for the feature! (I’m @ruthyannie) The weather is so crazy here in the PNW! Those wedges in the last pic are seriously amazing!

  5. I just found your website and love it. I am 5 ft tall and very petite, so I have trouble finding clothes I like. How tall are you? It looks like most of your recommendations would be great for me to try.

    • Hi! Glad you found us! I’m 5’3″ almost 5’4″ Haha. I typically can’t do petite sizing, unless it’s in jumpsuits or rompers, like above. 28″ inseam is what i love best right now for an at-the-ankle length. I hope this helps! Welcome!

  6. Love the halogen long cardi!!!!!! I need more!!!! Bought a beautiful, blush color last year and tore a hole in the sleeve! Gah!!! Still wearing it, though

  7. All very cute! Also, I love your posts because I get to see pics and updates from my hometown! And yes, re the AC…we had it installed when I was little but a lot of homes didn’t have it because you didn’t need it too often back then…climate change? Anyway, thank you!

  8. Laura, you look so cool (literally and figuratively!). Thanks so much for giving us a shout out. So happy you love your Tilikum cuff. xo

  9. Thank you for the suggestion on the Gap romper!! I can’t seem to find any rompers that fit me well either, but I bought the Gap one after your post and I love it! I agree that it runs a bit big. I ordered the petite medium and probably could have used the small, but the size is good enough to not warrant the online return.

  10. Can you please give sizing on the cardigan? I’m the same height as you but sometimes an xs, sometimes a small, Thank you!
