jacket (similar) | tee | jeans | sneakers (similar)
You probably know by now I adore black and gray. Besides the occasional striped shirt, most of my closet consists of dark clothing, especially in winter. Spring here is a little nuts weather-wise, but mostly it’s still quite cool and rainy, all the way through June-uary (the name says it all.)
But, while I will always love my black pieces so, all the spring flowers do actually inspire me to lighten up a bit this time of year. Clothing. I mean clothing-wise. This type-A has trouble ever lightening up beyond my outfit. (Sorry, family.)
So, I came up with a few ideas, using some new and old favorite pieces, to style an all black outfit for spring, and it’s definitely my newest go-to look. As my dad loves to say “I love it when a plan comes together!” Me, too, dad. Me, too! Check it out…
The Formula: Black + Spring-Colored Accessories
Pretty easy formula on this one: black tee + black jeans + light colored jacket + pale shoes + light colored bag = black outfit spring-ified! It seems simple and it is, but for some reason I’m really excited about this one. Interesting but easy. You know that’s my sweet spot.
Outfit Details
Jacket – (old) This Kut from the Kloth Helena Denim Jacket is very close. The wash and fit look similar. I seriously wear my light jean jacket with everything. It goes with just about every pair of my jeans since I don’t wear washes that light. It is my go-to with dresses in spring and summer. It’s a workhorse.
Tee – Sun & Shadow Washed Cotton Raw Hem Tee – This is my new favorite black tee (surprisingly hard to find.) It’s so soft and I like the hemline…it’s cut higher on the sides. The wash is a bit faded/acid wash that adds interest. Runs TTS. Wearing size Small.
Jeans – Free People Regan Button-front Jeans – These are technically dark gray, but I love how they look faded black with the black tee. They’re pretty much the perfect color. Fit TTS but they do stretch a bit during the day. I adore the button front. Wearing size 27 for reference.
Shoes – Lacoste Straightset Sneaker – Limited sizes, though. Try these or Shana’s tried and true by The Greats.
Bag – Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack – Full sized. Hard to find the gray I have in the full size, but that links to a gorgeous pale pink. Here’s gray in the medium Julian.
Sunglasses – (similar) Le Specs No Smirking 50mm – My sunnies are old, but I’m loving these!
Necklace – (similar) Express Hi Lo Tiered Necklace – I love Express jewelry for costume pieces. So reasonably priced and they usually have sales going. I get a fair bit of my jewelry from them.
Yes, Sienna is wearing a mini skirt and snow boots here. It has begun…her very strong opinions about what she wears everyday. Some battles are worth fighting and some are not. She wore a long sleeve black top and long pants in the 80 degree weather we had here the other day. I mentioned a couple of times how hot she’d be and then just let. it. go. And of course she was super hot and grumpy when I picked her up from school.
Oh, well. It was a black outfit after all…what can I say? Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I guess.
Happy Springifying,
L
Very cool! My go-to has similarly been a chambray shirt from J.Crew. Makes any all-black (maxi, pants/leggings, shirt, whatever) kind of cool, to me…with navy Moccasins or tan Saltwaters!
+1 on the J Crew Chambray shirt. It looks great with everything and super cool with black.
Love it! A great option for a bit lighter ‘jacket’ than the jean jacket. I have an old one but may have to check out JCrew’s selection! Thanks!
