Oh, sleep. You sweet elusive thing, you.
Being pregnant has quite the list of…shall we say…bonus side effects, so finding any little convenience to make life a bit more comfortable has been my goal. Enter the Sleep Shirt. A long oversized t-shirt made out of the softest material that has proven to be the best maternity sleepwear ever.
Bonus — the buttons on these shirts will make it even easier for nighttime feedings if breastfeeding is a part of your world! I have long sleeve versions in both grey and blue, and a short sleeve option, too.
I never had a problem sleeping before getting pregnant, let alone needed any sort of special sleepwear. I have fallen asleep with all the lights on, laying on metal bleachers, in the back of an outdoor venue while a rock band was performing, with a full living room of people having a grand ol’ time….And I know what you’re thinking — no, I don’t have narcolepsy (these were all purposeful times of falling asleep)! Just a very beautiful gift of catching some Zzz’s whenever needed. Even in my non-pregnant days it wasn’t uncommon to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, but I never had a problem falling right back to sleep as soon as my head hit the pillow again.
When I was nearing the end of my 2nd trimester, everything changed. That’s when the bathroom trips began increasing and the ability to fall back asleep quickly dissipated. Now in my 3rd trimester, I’m getting up to go to the bathroom as many as five times a night (I simply can’t stop drinking water past 6pm like recommended; I prefer being hydrated). Sleep shirts have been the PERFECT solution for stumbling to the bathroom multiple times and having as little fuss as possible.
The long sleeve sleep shirts have been my go-to since the weather has been cooling (this one also comes in black), but I also love these short sleeve options I scored from Amazon.
I have washed all of them multiple times (I always hang to dry) and they’ve held up great. Sleep shirts are also what I plan on living in during my hospital stay – they’re currently packed in my hospital bag right now!
