Friends. You know those pieces you occasionally find that speak to your soul? It doesn’t happen all the time, but sometimes you find something so killer that you just want to live in it. OK. Well, if my soul were a piece of clothing, I think it might be this tiger print kimono. WORD. And don’t worry, we’re not heading into Big Lebowski territory here. This robe styles UP, friends, meaning chic. Let’s see how this versatile piece works into our every summer situation, K? K.

4 Kimono Outfit Ideas

1. Kimono With Jeans & Heels

I love this look. I’m actually gonna wear it this weekend to an event downtown. YES. This outfit has everything: a nice lightweight layer for when it cools off in the evening, jeans because #itme, walkable heels because #itme and badassery because TIGERS. It’s so comfy, too. I love when comfy things are also badass!

2. Kimono With Shorts & Slides

Summertime, done. This is a way I’ll actually wear shorts…with something long over them. You may have seen my previous post where I talked about just that, and this gives a similar vibe and level of comfort. If I were one to ever wear heels with shorts, too, that would be cute here. I’m not, but you get it, mama if that’s you (ahem, Scotti & Shana rock that).

3. Kimono With Wide-Leg Jeans & Sandals

I wasn’t sure the lots of fabric on top and lots of fabric on bottom would work, but it does! Sometimes that happens and surprises me. I think one must use the tie at the waist to make that successful here, though. I love it styled with some (still walkable) heeled sandals and a cute straw bag. I’ll be wearing this on repeat for any date nights this summer.

4. Kimono With A Tank Dress & Wedges

Similar to the shorts combo, I feel more comfortable with something longer over a mini dress, too. Love this breezy outfit and the straw wedge sandals just finish off the summery vibe.

Meet Laura! She's a reader turned contributor and we couldn't be happier to have her as part of the team. Her fun, creative style is, as she says, "somewhere between Madewell and Joan Jett" (YES.) and she delivers some mean dressing room selfies so keep an eye out for those. Fun fact? She loves getting her hair cut and we love to see what she has up her sleeve.

  1. I love kimonos, and yours is especially awesome! Badass is the perfect word to describe it! All of these looks are so great. I have copied your “something long over shorts” looks many times! I have a question for you. How do the James Perse tees hold up? I always think they’re too expensive, but I keep having to replace my white v-neck tees. I have had two (one Madewell and one Something Navy) tear at the pocket and two (one Madewell and one J Crew) develop little holes in them. I do wear them often, but at this point, if I bought one $80 tee that holds up, I’d be better off!

    • Thank you! Above I linked to the James Perse tees at Nordstrom Rack, so they’re much less! I think around $35. They have held up well so far for me! I just lay them flat to dry to make sure they don’t wear out or shrink. I seriously love them. I hope that helps!

  2. Thank you! I am going to try one of these tees out! I typically hang all my tee shirts and then throw them in the dryer to soften them up. Maybe I’ll stop doing that. ?

  3. Love love Emerson Fry, I’ve been a fan for years, since she called her line Emersonmade. Expensive, yes, but excellent quality and sustainable, and it’s so fun to have pieces that are comparatively unique.
