Hi there! We have a new version of this article. Check out the best of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale right here.
…because I like self-torture and tight spaces with small children, I did some fun #dressingroomselfies for ya with my 6 month old.
Yay!
Budget-friendly style is my jam and the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is too epic to pass up, so I pulled out all of the stops – toys, teethers, rocking the stroller back-and-forth and even humming a fun little ditty and dancing around like a nut to entertain the babes…and I put together some gosh darn budget-friendly outfits.
MY FAVORITE TOP (of all time)
Glorious, amazing top. Thank you. Thank you, for being you. This is a fab one for allthejeans, gals.
Outfit Details
top – Lush Twist Front top (size S for reference)
jeans – BP. Destroyed Boyfriend Jean (27 for reference – if you like baggy go with your normal size, but if you want more fitted…go down a size)
shoes – Halogen Calf Hair Pointy Toe Flats (went up one size to a 10) – almost sold out, but maybe they’ll restock?? They also have them in other colors.
A Deep V
a very wrinkly one. Sorry about that. It’s still adorable though (especially when it’s not wrinkly – ha). I was able to wear a normal nursing bra with this one, too. Now, that’s an amazing deep V top. It’s perfect for date night, because sometimes its nice to show your guy a little cleavcleav. 😉
Outfit Details
top – Chloe & Katie Deep V Tank (size Small for reference) I can’t find the exact one I have on anymore, but they also have the top in two other prints/colors.
jeans – Transcend Vertigo Ankle Skinny Jeans (size 27 for reference)
shoes – Halogen Calf Hair Pointy Toe Flats (went up one size to a 10)
The Shirt with the Sexy Back
I showed the back first, because…the front pic does not show how pretty this top is. Yeh, sorry about the wrinkles.
Here’s another picture of me actually wearing it yesterday, after I ironed it all out…
Gaaawwgeous…and yep, that’s a simple bandeau bra underneath (one with cups).
Outfit Details
top – Chloe & Katie Knot Back Top (size Small for reference)
jeans (in dressing room) – STS Skinny Jeans (wearing size 27 for reference – definitely tight fitting, but a legging-type feel) awesome jeans. Very impressed. Looks to be almost sold-out (grr), so KUT from the Kloth has some very comparable skinnies.
shoes – Kate Spade Bitsy Fringe Bootie (went up one size to 10) looks to be sold out, but they still have the Tassel Bootie.
Sexy Little Black Shirt
& with a denim popover, for a little added interest…
Outfit Details
top – Socialite Strappy Rip Tank (size S for reference)
jeans – Utility Stretch Cotton Pants (size 27 for reference)
button down – Topshop Color Block Denim Shirt (size 4 for reference, but I could have gone up to a 6)
shoes – Halogen Calf Hair Pointy Toe Flats (went up a size to a 10) almost sold-out, but they have them in other colors/prints.
A Simple, Cool Henley
I like the white top all by itself – easy, casual and cool.
I did get a little creative though and added something a little different over top…
Love it – the raw edge of the jean with the flowy tunic and a bootie. This is one of my favorite outfits from the sale.
Outfit Details
tank – Henley Tank (size Small for reference)
jeans – rag & bone raw edge skinny (size 27 for reference) not under $100 – sorry, but had to try on and they did not disappoint. As a tall gal, I’d consider them a cropped jean and they look great with booties.
tunic – Plaid Maxi Tunic (size Small for reference)
shoes – Kate Spade Fringe Bootie (went up a size to a 10)
That Tee Though…
I put it with a few outfits, as you’ll see. Just a great basic to have to wear on it’s on with jeans or layered underneath sweaters and jackets.
The button down would have looked better buttoned up, without the tee on under and with some pretty flats or heels. I wish I had gotten a picture of it that way, because this is almost too boyish for me, ya know?
Outfit Details
tee – Hi Low tee (size Small for reference) comes in black and white, too
jeans – (skinny) Transcend Skinny Jeans + (boyfriend) BP. Boyfriend Jean (size 27 for reference)
button down – Stripe Shirt (size Small for reference)
booties – Halogen Flats + Kate Spade Fringe Bootie. Could have also done the Larkin bootie – such a cool boot and would have added some more girl to that last look.
& Another One…
Outfit Details
top – Deep V Neck Tee (size Small for reference)
jeans – STS Skinny Jean (size 27 for reference)
sweater – Stripe Pullover Sweater (size Medium for reference) – more on this one below
booties – Kate Spade Fringe Booties (went up one size to a 10)
A Pullover Sweater
An easy, light pullover sweater – a staple, in my opinion. I styled it with the shorts I came in, over a button-down and then over that henley tank…
Outfit Details
sweater – Stripe Pullover Sweater (medium for reference) – almost sold out, but Halogen has a cool Oversize V-neck Sweater…and I LOVE this Mock Neck Patch Pocket sweater (I’d just go up a size to make it more oversized).
button down – Stripe Shirt (small for reference)
white henley – Henley Hi Lo Tank (small for reference)
boyfriend jeans – BP. BF jeans (size 27 for reference)
raw edge jeans – rag & bone raw edge skinny (size 27 for reference)
shoes – Halogen flats + Kate Spade booties
Pretty Midi Skirt
I am always trying to figure out a way to style a midi skirt in a way that makes it look less…dressy. I had wanted to try on this ASTR Side Slit Sweater on with it, but it wasn’t available…so I found a denim button-down and I really ended up liking it. I think a cool jacket and some heels would have taken this whole outfit even further though.
For instance, this Waffle Knit Midi Jacket and these Cora Block heels would look goooood.
Outfit Details
top – Topshop Colorblock Denim shirt and the one I had wanted to try on is this ASTR Sweater Tank
skirt – Topshop Pleated Midi Skirt (size 6 for reference)
shoes – Halogen Flats (went up one size) these Cora heels or these Lace Up Pumps would also rock with a midi skirt
A Tunic for Layering
So…this top. It has potential. It needed a different shoe though…
Yep, a lace-up pump would do the trick…and I do like it with a lacey bra on underneath.
Outfit Details
tunic – Cowl Neck Sleeveless Tunic (size Small for reference)
jeans – Utility Stretch Cotton Pants (size 27 for reference)
shoes – not a good choice for this particular outfit, but they’re the Halogen flats (again – ha). I would wear the Vince Camuto Lace-up Pump instead. Totally. Would give it a more sexy-vibe and would lengthen the leg, which would help to make the tunic not look so awkwardly long.
Shop Everythaaaang.
Everything I tried on in this post and other stylin’, affordable options. All are under $100, with the exception of a few coats, but for coats…they are pretty darn cheap.
Affordable Shoe Picks
Most are under $100, with a few very worthy exceptions…because buying at least one good shoe, that will last, is always a good choice, in my opinion.
Oh, man. So many good outfits. This sale always gets me so ready for Fall.
Cheers,
Cams
Where are the studded sandals from??! Love them!
I know, amazing Vince Camutos. I have big feet…and they make them look small. They are sold out though. eeeehh. They were from last year. They have their ‘Jacinta’ sandal out now and it looks very pretty — http://rstyle.me/n/bv27x2bj38f
Where are your sandals from?
Sold out (from last year), but they are Vince Camuto…and they have their new ‘Jacinta’ sandal out now, which I think look awesome — http://rstyle.me/n/bv27x2bj38f
Cheers, Emily!
What did you end up buying besides the back knot top? I love those torn jeans but wasn’t sure about the crotch based on the Nordstrom picture but they look cute on you. Was the crotch at all weird? Did you size down or stay the same? Thanks for the budget friendly post
I bought the back knot top, STS skinny jeans, BP boyfriend jeans, white henley, Halogen flats, Kate Spade booties, Socialite strappy tank and the stripe pullover sweater. Basically, my Fall clothing budget has been tapped. ha.
As for the BP boyfriend jean’s crotch – I didn’t notice anything weird about them on me and I went with my normal size (27). They are definitely a baggy bf jean, FYI. If you like a more fitted jean, go down a size.
Hope that helps! Cheers.
Oh! I also went with the ASTR side slit sweater….and a couple of S’s picks. eeeeeee.
Thanks for the reply! I’m going to try the BF jeans becaus they are super cute on you.
where is the bandeau bra with cups from? I have a hard time finding one that fits since I’m nursing!
It’s from TJmaxx. They had them in black in white for $3/each…and I jumped on them. They have some at Aerie, too!
Your baby is delicious.
You really did pull out all the stops, thank you so much! The tunic outfit is such a GO.
Just ordered the long sleeveless turtleneck sweater!
What about those adorable shorts?
Me too! Where did your chambray track shorts come from?
I ordered several of the items you showed…I was wondering how tall you are? I’m 5’6″ and was wondering how the some of the items might fit. Thanks for the suggestions.
I’m really looking forward to more posts from moms who are not a size 4.
