Ever feel like the only TME reader in school that can’t justify that cute puffer jacket or fleece-lined stupid pants during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale because you live in a warm climate and you’ll maybe have two hours one gray morning in January to wear said pieces and, by the time you remember you own said pieces, it’s already time for short sleeves?
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2021: A Cool Capsule Wardrobe For Warm Climate Mamas
My south-of-the-Mason-Dixon line friends and beyond, I feel your pain. I WAS you…I WAS a Texas transplant…until I ghosted you for four seasons and the Rocky Mountains. But I still haven’t forgotten what “fall” and “winter” really mean when you live in a warm climate. Never fear friends, I have scoured the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale to find the best picks for a capsule wardrobe for a warm climate.
This Treasure & Bond Rib Cutout Midi Dress is ideal for the perpetually warm weather crew; it’s made out of cotton, sleeveless, AND has a cute little mid-back cutout for ventilation (or style, you choose). A stretch midi dress is essential in any capsule wardrobe for a warm climate because it is so versatile. Pair it with Vince Camuto booties or a pair of Veronica Beard houndstooth block-heeled sandals.

While everyone else has to resign their cutoffs to the back of their closets come fall, you get to rock those shorts nearly all-year-round! I love the wash on these Le Brigette Cutoff Denim Shorts. They also aren’t too distressed. I don’t know about you, but I love a pair of shorts with a chunky sweater or hoodie moment. Take advantage of the sale on shorts while everyone else is busy contemplating the best way to cover up their legs.

I am living for this PAIGE Cicely Leopard Print Camisole. It doesn’t scream ANIMAL PRINT, but it’s definitely fierce (see what I did there?). It would work on its own with a pair of shorts or jeans, and/or layered under a blazer or cardigan for cooler mornings.

One of my favorite parts of a warm climate wardrobe is “winter” skirts. No leggings or tights required. A ribbed midi skirt feels appropriate for cooler — erm 60 degree — temps and the side-slit allows for easy movement. Pick it up in grey or one of the other neutrals they have available.

I haven’t been into what Coach has been putting out over the past few years, but between my new favorite Coach sandals that I wrote about a few weeks ago and this Canteen Leather Crossbody Bag, the brand is doing it for me. The bag’s circular silhouette is inspired by a vintage canteen, yet it feels so fresh, and honeycomb is a wonderful “winter” color. This bag is high-priority on my Wish List.

Take it from someone who lived in the Sunshine State: sunglasses are most certainly a year-round accessory. These Kate Spade Gradient Cat Eye Sunglasses are timeless, under $99, and reminiscent of my favorite Le Specs. I feel like people sleep on the sunglasses in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and it’s where some of the best deals are!

The one thing I’ll definitely miss about Southern living (not the magazine) is nearly 365 days of sandals. I love a cute, easy, open-toed shoe. These EILEEN FISHER Keno Platform Sandals provide a little bit of height and come in a ton of colors, but I’m drawn to this orangey-red pair. There’s just something about sandals in November that I will forever mourn.

Y’all know there is always one day a year where you have to cover the plants at night so they don’t freeze, and actually figure out how to defrost your windshield. You find yourself wishing you had a cute chunky sweater for this very moment and not your husband’s old college sweatshirt to keep you warm. Here’s where the Free People Swim Too Deep Turtleneck Sweater comes in. Oversized, under $100, available in a slew of colors, perfect for those days where you just want to stay in bed, but the roses need you (or whatever plant people, I don’t have a green thumb).

Level-up date night, holiday parties, etc., with these gorgeous Vince Camuto sandals. Five colors to choose from, woven straps, thin heel, square toe, perfection. These babies were immediately added to my Wish List even if I can’t wear them in winter like some of y’all.

Every capsule wardrobe for a warm climate needs a graphic tee or 10 ;). I love a classic rock band tee, but the colors of this Madewell vintage Los Angeles 1973 graphic tee immediately caught my eye. Another plus? The fabric is 100% cotton. And truly you don’t start caring about fabric until you realize how much you can still sweat in polyester blend in Feb. in the south.

STOP SCROLLING. I know some of y’all are like, “bike shorts, hell no.” Seriously, if you haven’t given bike shorts a try, take these Nike Essential Bike Shorts for a spin and pair with a boxy cropped tee or a sweatshirt. Or, you know, actually use them for working out — I don’t judge. Bike shorts make for a super cute athleisure look that you might just fall in love with.

One of my favorite purchases from last year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (besides the stupid pants) was my Alo Cover Tank. This Zella Twist Front Tank is a similar, under $25, option plus a little longer in the front (which mama appreciates).

Just because it doesn’t reach freezing temps often where you live doesn’t mean you don’t need a jacket, in particular a raincoat. Ditch the yellow ducky-looking raincoat and make a statement with this teal Avec Les Filles Oversize Hooded Raincoat featuring a subtle taffeta texture. It’s definitely the cutest dang raincoat I’ve ever seen.

This is easily my favorite under $100 find of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. The Eliza J Twoffer Wide Leg Jumpsuit is so freaking chic I can’t stand it. I love the details, the checkered cropped pants, basically everything about it. Perfect for a holiday party, December date night or heck wear it to Publix, live your best life!

“Truly” nothing is worse than an uncomfortable underwire when you’re hot. I’ve long been a fan of True & Co. and was excited to see them in this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. The True Body Triangle Convertible Strap Bralette is perfect for v-neck tops, plus you can change how the straps lay in the back to suit your needs.

Any capsule wardrobe for a warm climate needs a cardigan. It is the “coat for people who don’t need coats.” The BB Dakota Vigo Speckled Shaker Stitch Cardigan isn’t your typical black, brown or white cardigan, but it’s still neutral enough to mix and match with other tops in your closet.

I can’t get over this Check Print Stretch Georgette Dress. The silhouette feels familiar, but the pattern and semi-sheer bottom half are showstoppers. I can’t believe it’s on sale for under $100. It looks a lot more expensive. Perfect for those outdoor parties in December. (See? Isn’t being a warm climate dweller during the NSale kind of fun?!)
If you wear makeup and live in a warm climate you NEED Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. This is a favorite among makeup junkies for a reason. The current deal for this set is two, full-size bottles and one travel-size bottle for $42, which is amazing. Trust me you will not regret having an extra bottle or two of this stuff around.
