I recently bought this black midi tank dress and wanted to come up with a couple of different ways to style it. Well, folks, I got a little carried away. I basically created my own little style challenge–and once I started coming up with ideas, I just couldn’t stop myself.
They may not all be winning looks, but I only included ways I would actually wear it. And I’m actually surprised by how versatile this dress is. It comes in a bunch of colors (but I love the classic black,) and I followed the sizing chart and got a small (I’m usually a size 6). It fits pretty true to size if not a little snug, and I love that you can wear a regular bra underneath.
How To Style A Black Midi Dress: 20 Outfit Ideas
Here are a couple of ways to style that LBD . . . all 20 of them.
1. Little Black Dress + Statement Jewelry
I’m a sucker for statement earrings, but a fabulous necklace or cuff bracelet would work just as well. Red lipstick optional (but always encouraged).

2. Little Black Dress + A Waist-Defining Belt
My favorite thing about this belt is that it’s 100% adjustable to the exact size you need and defines your waist perfectly. There are a bunch of ways to tie it and I like how it adds a little edge to the look.

3. Little Black Dress + A Knotted Graphic Tee
I mean . . . this is usually the first step we take here at TME: add a graphic tee and see what happens. In this case, I love it.

4. Little Black Dress Under A Plain T-Shirt
We all own this t-shirt and love it for a number of reasons. I especially love the fact that it fits in the shoulders but isn’t tight across the belly. I can kind of just drape it over this dress and let it be.

5. Little Black Dress + A Suede Moto Jacket
I love this slightly stretchy (vegan) suede moto–and it’s on sale in the perfect grey color for spring. Super comfy and pairs perfectly with this dress.

6. Little Black Dress + A Chunky Sweater
I mean, it is still cold here (and probably will be for awhile yet), so I had to come up with some ways to warm this dress up a bit. I’ve been loving this sweater this year because of the cute shoulder cut-out–here are some more budget-friendly options.

7. Little Black Dress Layered Under A Crewneck Sweater
This J. Crew sweater is made from their “Re-imagined merino wool,” meaning it’s machine-washable (woot!) and processed without the use of chlorine. (It’s also on sale and available in a ton of colors.)

8. Little Black Dress + An Off-The-Shoulder Blouse
I had no idea this would work, to be honest. I just bought this top from H&M, and it just happened to be nearby when I was trying the dress on . . . so I thought I’d just throw it on to see. I kinda love it! Especially with the sandals–I think it would look awesome with a slicked back pony and bright pink lips.

9. Little Black Dress + A Basic Blazer
I love this blazer with everything, so it stands to reason I’d love it with this dress. (And it’s on sale!)

10. Little Black Dress + A Leather Moto Jacket
I love leather motos–faux or real, a classic black moto makes everything better.

11. Little Black Dress Layered Under A Wrap Sweater
I’ve been loving this wrap sweater with mom jeans because of the higher waist, and I like the way it looks over this dress as well. An easy way to transition into warmer weather.

12. Little Black Dress + A Faux Fur Coat
Faux fur forever!! Another way I’ll be able to wear this dress long before summer temps.

13. Little Black Dress + A Button-Up Blouse Tied At The Waist
Tying a button-up blouse shows off your waist–I’d probably roll up the sleeves instead of letting them hang loose like this, though.

14. Little Black Dress + A Utility Jacket & Neutral Sandals
I wear jackets like this all spring . . . I often throw this in my bag in case I get cold (which is always). This one is old, but I love this one from Madewell (and I kind of love the black color, too!).

15. Little Black Dress + A Long Cardigan & Colorful Pumps
I added some bright shoes in order to balance out the black cardigan. A shorter cardigan might work better, but I don’t dislike the longer one . . . although I’m not sure if it works with the slit. This one might be perfect, especially since it’s a lightweight linen blend that would work even in summer.

16. Little Black Dress + A Denim Jacket & White Sneaks
Denim jackets are in my heavy rotation for spring and summer. This one is old and no longer available, but I just ordered one to try from ABLE (an ethical fashion brand that employs and empowers women as a solution to end poverty) that reviewers LOVE.

17. Little Black Dress + An Easy Off-the-Shoulder Top & Neutral Booties
I love shirts that have a wider boat neck that can be worn loosely off the shoulder like this . . . this shirt is super-old, but this one from ALLSAINTS might work. I also really like this top from Anthro.

18. Little Black Dress + A Tied Chambray Shirt
I don’t remember where I first saw this way of tying a shirt, but I’m sure I can’t take credit for it. I love the look, though–it’s like a lightweight version of a denim jacket. (This shirt is 40% off right now, too!)

19. Little Black Dress + Layered With A Drapey Faux Suede Jacket
This jacket has been around for years because people love it, myself included. They’re always coming out with new colors, and I like that it’s so soft and comfy. (The grey is on sale for 40% off!)

20. Back to Basics — Little Black Dress + A Waist Belt & Neutral Sandals
This is the perfect travel outfit, IMO. Hands-free bag, comfy shoes and a dress you can wear a regular bra with. Ready for some sightseeing. (Slip a lipstick and a hair tie into the bag to easily take the look from day to night.)

Whew! Well there you go. 20 looks revolving around one little black dress. So what do you think–how would you style it? Let me know in the comments!
