Fall is usually a time when we’re talking about fashion trends and going back to school shopping, but this year is different. This year, a lot of us are at home struggling to juggle work/school/kids and stress is at an all-time high. So the best fall trend this year? Getting outside. Take it from an “indoor girl,” it will work wonders for your mental health.
Fall Trend 2020: Get Outside (Backcountry Can Help)
I feel a little silly writing this, but these pictures were taken just over a mile from my house. Literally, two minutes down the road are hiking trails along the Dead River with the most amazing views of waterfalls…and I never knew they were there. I mean, I’m not one who’s typically described as “outdoorsy,” BUT…that needs to change in 2020. This is the year that I need to get out of the house and into nature, or I’ll go crazy.
As I walked along the path, I was blown away by the beauty of my surroundings: the color of the leaves, the sound of the waterfalls, the feel of the earth beneath my feet. So much so, that after these pictures were taken, I went home, grabbed my family, and brought them back with me — the kids wandered and played, and we were there for hours.
Backcountry has everything you could possibly need to get outside whether it’s hiking, camping, running, biking, or just getting out the front door. And right now they’re offering our readers 15% off full-priced items with code THEMOMEDIT and you can shop their Winter Clearance Sale (full of amazing brands like Helly Hansen, FlyLow & Smith to name a few) happening now through 10/11.
Hiking Outfit Details
vest: Patagonia Bivy Hooded Down Vest — super-warm and comfy, made with 600-fill down insulation that’s entirely recycled. Love the color!
top: Free People In The Mix Cuff Top — the cuffs on this shirt are so so good. Perfect for layering!
sneakers: Merrell Alpine Sneaker — I put these on right from the box, no socks, and had zero problem with blisters or rubbing. The padding is really comfortable and the soles have really good traction.
bag: Fjallraven Kanken 16L Backpack — this backpack comes in a ton of colors and has a seat cushion inside of it that doubles as protection for anything poking into your back. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my laptop fits inside!

Just because things are a bit different this year doesn’t mean you can’t still rock some fall trends while getting outside–Backcountry has a ton of options that are right on-trend with the retro vibe that’s huge this fall. I’m loving all of the golds, browns and oranges that feel straight from the ’70s!
