Moab, Meet Modcloth

Ah….vacation.  It is, without a doubt, my very favorite thing to do.  I almost don’t care where we go – it’s more about the adventure.  The possibilities.  Something new to be experienced, somewhere new to be explored…I’m an Aquarius, obviously.

It’s also about the dedicated family time.  Most of our vacations are screen-free (except for the actual traveling part, because, shoot me) and this tradition of family-time-as-travel was started young, with my own parents.  Each summer they’d take us on a month-long family road trip, mostly going West, where I formed my most treasured family memories.  There is no doubt that these trips shaped who I am today.  There’s something freeing about travel, about discovery, about being in new places with new people and new experiences.

Part of this journey of personal discovery has always included style.  Style is such a fun way to express who you are.  Or at least….who you are at that particular moment in time.  And there’s something about travel that has always bumped me out of my comfort zone – including my style comfort zone.  Some women can maintain their personal style, no matter the situation.  Their sense of personal style is as strong as their sense of self.  I admire these women…but I am not one of them.  Instead, I’m always experimenting, playing around with who I am, how I present myself.  I am comforted by the fact that these truly stylish women are often in their 60’s.  I hope to be them someday.

Until then….it feels more authentic to embrace my chameleon-like nature.  I’ll try on different outfits and different personas to see which fits best.  And I’ll continue to use travel to take risks – personal, emotional, and sartorial risks.  Because….it’s fun.

Outfit Details

romper: Modcloth Lighthearted Cartographer Romper, c/o – size XS –  I love this thing.  The fabric is a lightweight linen-cotton blend, and it’s such a fun statement piece.  I think the romper runs a little bit small.  Modcloth is one of my fav places to find quirky, fun, and irreverent pieces (or a good nerdy tee – like this or this)….so here are a few additional options in the same spirit as my romper:

wedge sandals: Seychelles Dazzling Suede Wedges, c/o – these are super cute and comfy enough…at first.  But they didn’t stand up to the amount of walking that I typically do.  Maybe I should’ve tried this clog? Ah….who am I kidding?   I should’ve just gone with one of these tried-and-true.  Next time.

bag: Modcloth Ring It Around Town Bag, c/o – this bag is really fun.  I love the wood handle, and it’s open, so easy to throw stuff in.  But it also comes with a cross-body strap if you need one, and a separate zippered clutch that fits inside, keeping your wallet and phone from accidentally spilling out.  So fun for summer.  If quirky bags are your thing (and they’re certainly mine), you’ve gotta check these out:

sunnies: Quay All My Love Sunglasses, c/o

C’mon, Summer.  I’m so ready for ya.

xo,

S

A huge thank-you to Modcloth for sponsoring this post!  I’m obsessed with your decidedly playful take on fashion.  I swear….sometimes it feels like a breath of fresh air.  Keep doin’ whatcha do.  As always, all thoughts, opinions, and product choices (especially the miss-guided shoe choices) are my own.  And readers, thank you for your continued support.  It doesn’t go unnoticed and is so very much appreciated.
