It’s that time of year when we usually start talking about Fall Trends. But the Fall of 2020 has been very…um…challenging (understatement of the year) and while the runways and fashion mags have *helpfully* supplied a few ideas…(plaid suit? anyone?)…
We decided to go in a different direction.
Instead of looking to runways and designers and — quite frankly — retailers for inspiration, we turned inward. Given the fact that we’re still in the midst of a global pandemic, given the fact that we’re supposed to socialize outside (6ft apart,) given the fact that we’re expecting stay-at-home orders to resurface as infection rates rise, and given the fact that many of us are also managing our kids’ virtual schooling and our day jobs…what the heck do we actually want to wear this fall?
Is there a way to blend the practicality needed by Our Crazy Reality with a little sartorial joy??
At this point, we’ll take a freaking smidge of sartorial joy.
The 15 Fall Trends We’re Actually Wearing In 2020
With that in mind, we got to work. And, quite frankly, once we released ourselves from what the “experts” deemed trendy, and instead focused on pieces we actually want to wear…our list of 2020 Fall Trends came pretty easy.
Truth be told, this list was initially just tongue-in-cheek. But it ended up being so helpful, in terms of focusing our own shopping dollars, that we had to share.
- Face Masks
- Pretty Colors
- Zoom Tops
- Dad Jeans
- Matching Sweatsuits
- Slouchy Cardigans (cropped or long)

The 2020 Fall Trends Guide: A Sneak Peek
Below we have a small sneak peek of the kind of content you can find in said guide, but for the whole thing, you’ve gotta sign up for our newsletter.
Face Masks
If there’s one trend that we’re fully embracing for 2020…it’s the face mask. We mask up for the protection of our friends, our family, our communities — caring is cool, y’all. And since masks are cropping up in everything from gingham to sequins…there’s no reason not to embrace this medically necessary trend.
Matching Sweatsuits
This one is kiiiiind of a no-brainer. The loungewear game is coming in hot for 2020, and this is one trend we can’t get enough of. There are SO many amazing options now that #stayingfromhome is our new norm, so whether you are looking for something sustainable, something sporty, something printed (leopard, camo, floral, tie-dye are just a few examples), or something neutral (basic black will never be bad, but we’ve also been rocking whites and creams and taupe )…there’s a sweatsuit — or two — for you. And don’t even get us started on the various jogger styles: skinny, wide-leg, cropped — we’re embracing them all.
Slouchy Cardis
Since nothing says “I’ve given up” quite like a cardigan, what could be a better trend for 2020?
I kid you guys, I kid.
Truth be told, we’re all (myself included) fully embracing this closet workhorse. Whether the cardigan is oversized or cropped, statement or neutral, it’s one of the cozy pieces we’re seriously hunting for this fall.
Patterned Leggings
On days we’re sick of our standard black leggings…printed ones are an easy swap. Wear with that same oversized sweater for an all-day, work-from-home marathon, or buy the matching sports bra to entice you into a 30 min. online workout.
I mean…whatever works, man.
House Shoes
Another genius trend, courtesy of 2020: House shoes — as comfortable as slippers, but can be worn outdoors. Yet another way we’re taking our loungewear up a notch.
Also good for foot support during those long periods working at the home standing desk.

Xo!
Who knew the beloved matching sweatsuit would make a comeback! I didn’t, but I am definitely here for it! And I’ve been doing the long cardigan thing for awhile here. So happy to know I’m on trend! Haha! As far as house shoes go, I’m thinking I’m going to go with that classic Birkenstock Boston style and completely take myself back to Temple University’s campus circa 1993. I’m wearing pretty much everything else I wore back then at this point, why not make it complete?
Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this guide!! I ordered a couple of nicer dresses recently that I *should* have been excited about but even though they looked good on, I didn’t want to keep them. I’ve been leaning towards all of the things on this list but feeling like I should get more fall fashion-ey things lol. These definitely make me happier and make more sense for the world we live in right now.
I am a subscriber but I haven’t received a link for the guide. Only the newsletter which brings me here

Xo!
Hi Gwen, I’m having trouble as well. Maybe I need to wait until 6 am the next day?
