I’m an expert when it comes to warm puffer coats up here in the U.P. of Michigan, where our winters last roughly from October-April. (I kid, but we’ve literally had snowstorms in May.) This fall, though, I realized I had no raincoats — absolutely nothing to put on when it’s raining outside.
This was never really that big of a deal until this year, the year of physical distancing where 99% of our social interactions happen outside. Before, if it was raining, I pretty much just went inside. This year, a little rain can’t tell me what to do. This year, outside time is essential to my mental health — rain be damned.
Hunter Boots & A Cute Rain Jacket
I already owned these Hunter boots because of our crazy long winters and insane amounts of snowfall. Springtime for us means all of that snow melting — our streets are wet with deep puddles for weeks at a time and waterproof boots are 100% necessary. These keep my feet dry and warm, and I love the shine. They come in a TON of colors and patterns (and I’ve rounded up more rain boots below), and you can add these socks for extra warmth. All I needed was a cute, functional rain jacket.

J.Crew Nails It: The “Perfect Rain Jacket”
So when I saw the “Perfect Rain Jacket” from J. Crew, it was an easy choice. It’s water-resistant, so while not fully 100% waterproof, it provides enough protection for what I’d use it for (but I’ve rounded up some more rain jackets below if you’re looking for some serious downpour protection). I like all of the details–the adjustable waist, the hood with a drawcord, the gold buttons and snaps, the fishtail hem, and the pockets to hold everything I need.
It comes in a ton of colors, but I was torn between the camo and the animal print — both are so good. I ended up going with the camo since the animal print was on backorder at the time — but both are fully stocked right now and are available in sizes XXS-3X. One note about sizing: it runs big. I’m wearing an XS here (usually small or XS in jackets and coats) and could easily go down to an XXS.

jacket: J. Crew’s Perfect Rain Jacket (xs) — 30% off right now with code 5DAYS. This comes in a ton of colors, but my favorites were the camo (pictured) and the animal print. SO good.
sweatshirt: Puff Sleeve Sweatshirt In Vintage Cotton Terry — I’m not usually one for bright colors, especially neon pink, but there’s something about this color that just lifts your mood. (But it’s also in a bunch of neutral colors if bright pink isn’t your thing.)
jeans: J. Crew Curvy Toothpick Jeans — LOVE these jeans. Perfect for curvier bodies and in three different lengths for the perfect fit.
boots: Hunter Gloss Rain Boots (tons of colors available here) — I need these in the fall for rain, but even more for our springs…instead of flowering trees and sun, we have a ton of snow melting and deep puddles everywhere.

Cheers to not being stuck inside this year!
XOXO,

Can I add Bogs boots to the list? They come in really cute patterns and I couldn’t live through the winter without them!
Yes! I just looked these up and love them: https://shopstyle.it/l/bmX4s
I have the J. Crew rainboots in black and I wore them in Germany and Scotland this time last year (in the before-time when we could go places). Anyway, I found them comfortable enough for all day wear, and I’ve even worn them all day at work on days when there was a little bit of snow and slush outside.
Ooh that’s great information to know! Thank you!
