And here we go with the look-back posts! Whew. What a year, friends. And what a year for fashion, eh? The confusion of 2020 entered into 2021 in more ways than one, but especially when it came to jeans, amiright?
True-to-form, my top purchases from this past year include a nod to a couple of new trends (full-length jeans and half-zip sweaters, I’m looking at you) mixed with classic standbys (I’ve been searching for a great white button-down forever!)…and…rain boots. Yup. Your resident Pacific Northwest gal wouldn’t leave you hanging high and not-so-dry when it comes to rainy weather now would I? (Apparently, I’m feeling the rhetorical questions today, too.)
The 5 Finds From 2021 I’m Still Wearing On Repeat
We try on a lot of things around here at The Mom Edit to give y’all all the info we can on fit, style, and quality and whether things are worth it…hence the edit part of our name. So when any of us are wearing something on repeat that really says something.
I get so excited when a piece really comes through for me and hits all the marks. And these 5 pieces, in particular, are pure closet gold.
I raved about finally checking this piece off my closet to-find list earlier this fall. I could never manage to find the white button-down shirt for me, but this one from Alex Mill x Cup of Jo is it. It doesn’t gape at the bust, it has long cuffed sleeves and is a bit longer length without being too tunic-like (and it has the cutest tiny embroidered heart on the sleeve to boot.) TTS. And it comes in stripe, too. Wearing a 6.
I first fell in love with this sweater style during the Nsale this summer and haven’t looked back. I own at least four now and mentioned recently that they’re replacing all my turtlenecks that never quite did me justice.
I love the stand-up collars and the versatility the zipper adds. I don’t care if these somehow go out of style…I’ll wear them forever.
The black sweater by BDG and La Ligne sweater (green below) run true to size. The Treasure & Bond style in taupe below runs a little big, but is oh so soft and cozy. Wearing a S in all three.

I know you recently saw me in skinny jeans again, but I’m really reserving those for the cold, messy days or when I’m layering a big coat on top.
When I want to feel fabulous and stylish though? I’m sticking with my straight legs. This year I found a few pairs that I really love, so I guess this is more of a category too than one particular piece, but since sellouts are also a top thing of 2021, I thought that might be best to run with anyway.
AGOLDE, Re/Done & Frame beat out Mother Denim as my favorite jean brands this year (with Levi’s also holding solidly in the mix, too, but no new pairs actually bought in 2021 because the older pairs are perfection.)

Fleece joggers were so 2020. 2021 was all about the Paige joggers for me…at least the final part of the year has been. I’ve worn these coated black Paige Mayslie joggers at least once a week since I’ve had them and even took them on our Disney World trip.
Why do I love them? They have that slightly edgy vibe I always love, are insanely comfy, fit my shorter 5’4″ frame so well, go with pretty much every shoe I put on, and elevate whatever else I pair with them. They fit true to size but perhaps just slightly big in the waist. I have another coated pair in the Chicory Luxe color and a third pair in non-coated olive green.
Paige’s website has the most extensive colors and sizes of these fav pants, but you can also find quite a few at Nordstrom, at Saks Fifth Avenue, and some at Bloomingdale’s, too. (Oh and even a maternity pair! Nice.)

These Ganni rain boots were one of the more recent purchases but I feel like I’ve already gotten my money’s worth out of them. They are not only warm and comfy and waterproof, but they don’t scream “clunky rain boot” and actually look cool with most of my outfits.
They’re a real gem of a find for this PNW mama…for years I’ve been searching for this unicorn. They run true to size for Euro sizing and the recycled materials are such a great added bonus.

Well there we have it! It’s fun to look back and see what I’ve really loved wearing this year and what I keep grabbing when getting dressed. It’s so fun to put outfits together simply for ideas but it’s telling when we really hone in on what winds up sticking with us day-to-day.
I hope this has been a helpful glance back at my top purchases of the year! Happy Happy 2022, everyone!
Would love for you to say hi over on my Instagram @laurajansenstyle where there are mostly odes to snacks, OOTDs and everyday mom life stuff in Portland, Oregon. xoxo
