Weightless Leggings and Not-Tight Workout Pants: My Top Picks at lululemon Right Now

Thank you to lululemon and ShopStyle for sponsoring this post.

Linzi has been looking for a pair of “not tight workout pants” for years. And I get it: I end up living in my workout gear all day long. I usually put on workout clothes first thing in the morning — this first, thoughtless step is the best way to ensure I squeeze in a workout — but after all-day wear…leggings sometimes start to bug.

lululemon Has The Unicorn Leggings & Joggers I’ve Been Looking For

So imagine my happy dance when lululemon reached out and I realized — after a brief try-on sesh — that NOT ONLY do they make leggings that basically feel like…nothing…but lululemon also makes a pair of pants that is best described (according to me, anyway), as “loose leggings”.

Which are exactly the unicorn pants Linzi and I have been looking for all these years.

lululemon’s Align Pant II

Let’s begin with those absolutely weightless leggings, shall we? In my head, I have started mentally referring to lululemon’s Align Pants as my ‘skin leggings’. Which sounds horrible, I know!!! But it does give a pretty clear indication of exactly how weightless these leggings feel. They’re super-soft and smooth, the rise is nice and high, and they have that magical fit of being supportive…without squeezing. I LOVE THEM.

I’m also happy to report that lululemon has increased its size range, and these leggings are now available in sizes from 0 – 20, as well as three different lengths: 25″, 28″ and 31″.

Because they’re so insanely weightless, they’re one of the few pairs of leggings I can wear comfortably all day — even after a long workout. And they’re wicking and breathable and great for both my lower-impact workouts (like yoga or pilates) or my super sweaty ones — biking or HIIT workouts.

These leggings are totally opaque (in any shade), but I’ll always recommend sticking with leggings in darker colors — this gorgeous olive is as light as I’ll comfortably go. Not only is this shade really pretty with black, but olive leggings make a chic base for a monochromatic outfit, too.

bomber (4) | thermal long-sleeve (s) | leggings (4) | belt bag

I know I’m focused on the leggings…but it’s worth taking a peek at lululemon’s jackets, too. Especially this Non-Stop Reversible Bomber Jacket. Not only is it great for throwing on over workout gear (instant outfit), but it also looks pretty amazing with everything else (even dresses). I have big plans for this little piece come spring.

And in case you somehow missed the insanely cool sweatshirt…here’s a back view. It’s a piece that is absofreakinglutely perfect with leggings.

lululemon’s Ready To Rulu Jogger 29″

Now these, lululemon’s Ready To Rulu Joggers, are the “loose workout leggings” that Linzi and I have been dreaming of all these years. Unlike fleece joggers, which I find uncomfortable for working out (too hot, too heavy), these joggers are made from a material akin to leggings. They have a high-rise, with a comfortable (read: supportive, not squeezy) waistband. They don’t flap around and are a legit option for working out.

These pants also come in a size range of 0 – 20, and are available in a bunch of colors. I have a really long rise, so I sized up to a size 6 (otherwise they fit TTS). Of course, they’re so comfortable that I find myself…

They’re good, yeah?

I always appreciate pieces that fit my lifestyle, pieces that make it easier for me to squeeze in that very necessary workout — the one that keeps me sane and functioning. And these two pieces (the leggings, the joggers) both hit that sweet spot of comfort and practicality (seriously — you can put them through their paces), yet are chic enough to transition into real life. (And don’t even get me started on the sweatshirt…I just crazy-love that thing.)

In summary?

Well done, lululemon. WELL DONE.

  1. The Align leggings are AMAZING! As are the Align joggers, the Beyond the Studio crops and joggers and Dance Studio pants all fabulous choices. I can work out, go for long walks and do errands feeling put together. My 15 yo daughter LIVES in her align leggings to the point she rarely wears anything else. These are COMFY ladies! They do pill after a year of weekly washes on delicate and hang dry, but still feel like I get my money’s worth.

On another note, Shana what are you doing for at home workouts? I search for yoga and pilates vidoes but quickly get overwhelmed by the hundreds that are out there and decide to sit and read TME instead : )!

  2. Have you tried Zyia? Same quality as Lulu with all the same attributes but at 25-40% off. The luxe collection are just like the the Lulu aligns and the light n tights are the best if you want a lot of compression without being restrictive. Zyia joggers are life as well. Definitely recommend the peak zipper or unwinds. http://www.myzyia.com/BODYBEYOUTIFUL/

  3. It is my dream to have lululemon reach out to me for a try on sesh 😉
I finally broke down and got a pair of aligns a few months ago and I must admit – worth it. Not just the softness, but the no seam waist. My husband them in the dryer a few weeks ago and I screamed so loud my throat was sore. Luckily it was on low and it was only once, so they appear to still be okay! No pilling yet, but I’ve only had them since September.

  4. That sweatshirt is very cute.

Not that this stops me from wearing work out clothes as casual clothes, when I’m NOT working out, but I’ve never understood the idea of wearing workout clothes directly from working out and then as a casual outfit. When I am finished with a workout (even yoga), my clothes are a sweaty, stinky mess. In order to be comfortable, I need to, at an absolute minimum, put on clean, dry underpants and a dry workout bra. I usually like to do an entire change. I do love a good sweatshirt to throw on *after* I’ve taken off my sweaty workout bra and leggings. Maybe I’m just a heavy sweat-er, but I can’t imagine hanging around in cold, clammy, smelly clothes and being happy in that situation!

    • OMG you guys are cracking me up! I mean YES – I would 1000% rather shower and change after a workout. I am definitely sweaty and gross. But the second I’m done working out, someone is pestering me for snacks, or I’m trying to meet some deadline or I’m sneaking the workout in between meetings and BAM: suddenly it’s 5PM. Even pre-COVID I’d do school drop-off, run to dance class, then book to the office to get a couple of uninterrupted hours in before picking up the kids at 3. On the upside, the days that I DO shower and put on clean clothes…I emerge all OBVI I’M BEYONCE NOW. So there’s that. 🙂

  5. Hahahaha. A shower may be too much to ask for (a shower and a blowdry is basically like winning the lottery for me), but I definitely appreciate a quick change into dry clothes (which, more often than not, are just other, non-worked-out-in workout clothes, so I’m still your ideal customer! :))
