The transition from winter to spring has its share of pros and cons. Pros: the weather is finally getting warmer (automatic serotonin booster), flowers are blooming, and people are out and about. And the biggest downside? Figuring out exactly how to nail your transitional dressing during the shoulder season while the weather warms up.

5 Cute Transitional Outfits To Wear In Early Spring

My secret to handling those days where the mornings are warm, but the evenings are cool is balance. I pair my favorite spring pieces with an item that adds enough warmth without feeling too bundled up. Show off a little leg while keeping more coverage on top, pull out the trusty denim jacket to complete the everyday dress, or turn to the latest Gen-Z trend: using a button-up shirt as a layer!

Kohl’s has a TON of these spring styles to scoop up at a great price point, with free shipping on orders $50+ and a wide selection of pieces perfect for the transitioning seasons.

Here are five outfits ideas I put together in hopes of making the transition into spring a little smoother…

Transitional Spring Outfit Idea 1: Midi Skirt + Slouchy Sweater

This is easily my favorite look of the bunch. I love a good pop of color and this crewneck sweater does the trick. The light blue pastel naturally brightens my mood, which is a great way to start the day. Florals are a spring staple, so of course, I had to include this Nine West floral midi skirt into my top picks. It is the perfect calf-length and just breezy enough to keep cool throughout the day.

Transitional Spring Outfit Idea 2: Colorful Graphic Tee + Trousers

As much as I enjoy wearing skirts, nothing can replace my love for pants — especially when they’re high-waisted. These paper-bag trousers have the cutest bow-tie that cinches on the waist (a little hourglass silhouette moment). They are extremely versatile as you can dress them up or down. I’d go for the casual route by tucking in a graphic tee band tee for a pop of color. To top it off, slip on some comfy gingham mules, accessorize with a chic silver paperclip necklace, and a fun, colorful crossbody bag.

Transitional Spring Outfit Idea 3: Casual Black Dress + Denim Jacket

There is nothing more useful than an everyday black dress. It’s classy, timeless, and the outfit possibilities are endless. I love how flattering a V-neck is on the collarbones (bonus: it helps draw attention to a dainty necklace). Since the temperature is unsettling during the first few weeks of spring, I’d reach for this Levi’s Trucker Jean Jacket for some extra warmth (size up for that easygoing oversized fit). Denim jackets are ideal when you need a lightweight layer on a cool spring night!

Transitional Spring Outfit Idea 4: Bike Shorts + Long Button-Up

If there is one trend I’ve been loving, it would definitely be the biker shorts + button-up combo. Kohl’s has limitless options for button-up shirts, but this white button-up from FLX has the perfect oversized fit. It is long enough to cover the backside, and the shirt itself is super-light and roomy. To balance off the boxy figurine, pair it with slimming black bike shorts, which btw, are sooo comfy and stretchy. Oh… it also has pockets too!

Transitional Spring Outfit Idea 5: Overalls + Turtleneck

Sure, springtime is for pastels and floral flowing dresses, but it is also a season for overalls. Denim, straight-leg overalls are one of my must-have transitional pieces from winter to spring. This pair of overalls also come in blue washes, but I am obsessed with the brown neutral shade (even if it’s considered a fall color). You can wear almost anything underneath and it’ll look put-together. To keep the outfit simple, pair it with a black long-sleeved turtleneck, a basic essential that works well for layering.
