I’ve been lucking out with Eileen Fisher sales lately. I’m still loving the boxy, cropped sweater I featured here…and now I have one more to run by you guys: Eileen Fisher’s Organic Linen Cardigan (40% off at Nordstrom).
Truth be told, I’m not yet 100% convinced I’m keeping it…but it is one of those pieces that is A Wardrobe Problem Solver, so I’m having trouble sending it back, too.
6 Stylish Reasons I May Keep The EILEEN FISHER Linen Cardigan
This cardigan is sustainably made from mostly organic linen (with a bit of nylon thrown in) and is currently 40% off. It comes in both petite and regular sizing (I’m wearing a regular xs,) and is also available in white. It’s not super-soft — it feels a bit like wearing net — but it is comfortable netting (haha) and is also really lightweight, making this piece work in warm weather, as well as fall.

1. Looks Cute With My Levi’s 501s
Per usual, my first stop, for The Testing Out of Potential New Tops, is to try them on with my most-worn pair of jeans. If they can’t get past this very basic test…then it’s gonna be a steep climb to victory.
This one? Flying colors. I love the sheer top over a pretty bralette SO MUCH. This is a very safe way of spoofing the whole bare-midriff trend.

2. Genius Layered Under Jackets
Since the weather is starting to cool, I wanted to make sure this top was easy to layer. And! Happy surprise! I LOVE how this cardigan looks when layered. The two rows of buttons (cardi, jacket) give me life.

3. Elevates Relaxed Dad Jeans
It’s the kind of piece that adds a bit of polish to relaxed, distressed jeans. And bridges the gap between the uber-sophisticated trench and the casual denim. The fit is so good — I especially like the low necklace and sexy sheerness of the piece — that it reads much more interesting than a basic cardigan, elevating it to date-night status.

I also love that the neckline of this cardigan is sexy enough for date night, especially when you draw attention to it with a bit of flashy gold. (Note: a faux-fur topper is another alternative on date night — the cardigan works here, too.)

4. Makes An All-Black Outfit More Interesting
All-black outfits are chic, sleek, and – too often – boring. A mix of textures is one easy way of taking a monochromatic black outfit next level. (And mixing in something sheer is one heck of a good way to do that.)

5. Covers The Arms in a Fancy Dress
Because the cardigan is sheer, it also can read fancy, making it the perfect piece to warm up a party dress. And a cropped cardigan will always be much more flattering over dresses than the usual hip-length or long cardigan. This piece works both buttoned-up and unbuttoned.

6. Makes At-Home Outfits More Exciting
I’m not 100% sold on this angle — I still much prefer giant cashmere while at home. But! In the warmer months, or if I need a drastic change from my usual look of Androgynous Woolly Comfort….mayyyybe?

ps. This one’s for the pinners…
