One of my favorite things as a 20-something was holiday fashion. Cute dress, sparkly heels, goosebumps (obvi I couldn’t let something silly like a coat ruin the vibe).
5 J.Crew Outfit Pieces Perfect For Your Next Holiday Party
But now that I’m older and — erm — wiser(?), I appreciate winter pieces I can mix and match, and J.Crew has all that and more. Ruffle tops that seamlessly transition from work to party, black trousers for any occasion, you name it, J.Crew probably has it.
I recently took advantage of J.Crew’s incredible Black Friday Sale and found five pieces I’m totally feeling that put me in a festive state of mind.
As I wrote in my J.Crew Fall Haul Blog, these Cameron High-Rise Four Season Black Trousers are fantastic. Fitted, but not tight, great for when leggings won’t cut it and you’re not in the mood for jeans. I paired them with a ruffle blouse, the most perfect little velvet clutch I ever did see, and a pair of Nine West pumps (similar) I’ve owned since my cubicle warrior days. Since the pumps are peep toe, I kept my polka dot stockings on (similar) for some warmth.
Fit Notes: Pants are TTS (I’m wearing a 10). The top is TTS (I’m wearing a 10).
I would describe this Pleated Ruffle Top in Crinkle Chiffon as Colonel Sanders meets Miss Havisham with a bit of Bridgerton background actor sprinkled in. And let me be clear, that is a compliment. The velvet mini skirt absolutely screams — no, carols — holidays. Paired with stockings (similar), booties (similar) and a bold red lip (#94) I’m ready for all the party invites.
Fit Notes: The top runs TTS (I’m wearing a 10). The skirt is TTS (I’m wearing a 10).
I usually eschew mini skirts, but this Pleated Mini Skirt in velvet isn’t so short that you expose yourself as you bend over to take the 100th snack away from your screaming toddler. Not that I would know. I opted for a flannel shirt and a pair of riding boots I purchased from DSW years ago (similar) for an easy, breezy look with a festive flair.
Fit Notes: The skirt fits TTS (10). The shirt runs small (I have broad shoulders so I ordered a 12 instead of my regular 10).
Flannel shirts can be tricky. You either look like Pinterest perfection…or a lumberjack. In fact, I rolled up my sleeves and made a reel on three easy steps to making a flannel shirt work. Literally, rolling up your sleeves is one of the steps. I tucked the classic-fit flannel button-down into the J.Crew black trousers and put on my Tory Burch Minnie Flats that I have owned for over a decade. They are worth every penny. I also love how this delicate necklace adds some femininity to the button down. Festive, but understated (understated for a Jersey girl that is).
You know I live for a bottomless bag to hold #allthethings. But, sometimes it’s fun to mix it up. I adore this velvet foldover clutch. It holds a surprising amount of stuff (can’t teach an old dog new tricks). I also played around with this Mini Tassel Bag, because sometimes I just want something I can throw over my shoulder (like a Continental Solider). I was also eyeing this Mini Celestial Pouch Bag in Velvet, which is absolutely out of this world (GET IT!?). I’ll see myself out.
I may have graduated from the days of thin dresses sans outerwear in the winter, but I haven’t lost my love of holiday dressing with all the trimmings.
