Thank you to Backcountry & ShopStyle Collective for sponsoring this post.

I fell in love with these cargo pants by Free People the second I saw them on Backcountry’s website. They reminded me of a favorite pair I had back in the early 2000s…somewhat slouchy, a bit baggier, worn lower around the waist and insanely comfortable.

I wore those cargo pants with everything from cropped hoodies, to camis and sweaters. So…I crossed my fingers and ordered this pair (in both a small and medium) hoping they would work as well as those pants I loved 20 years ago…

And they deliver.

I can already tell that these will be THE PANTS of the spring (& summer) for me. They're so easy & relaxed & I love them. Don't want to wear jeans? These. Not feeling shorts? These.

These Free People Cargo Pants Seriously Deliver

We recently (temporarily) moved to Carolina Beach and I’ve been wearing these cargo pants basically nonstop: to the beach over a bathing suit, with a graphic tee to walk Greenlea to school, with a fun open-back sweatshirt when we’re exploring the island. They’re made of a cotton/linen blend so they’re lightweight and breathable, and perfect for warmer weather. (And I love the cargo pockets!)

Birks have been my go-to summer sandals for years bc of how insanely comfy they are. I've worn them alllll around, walking miles in them. The shearling pair I'm wearing are so cozy that I've also been wearing them inside as slippers.

This place has turned us into a walk-everywhere family — and I kind of love it. Nothing revitalizes like being outside in the fresh air and not having to get in the car to drive anywhere. We walk Greenlea to school, explore the island a bit, walk to pick her up, and then go to the beach or walk around the lake or take a stroll along the boardwalk. We’re sharing a one-bedroom apartment, but the location (close to the ocean) is totally worth it!

Speaking of exploring the island, there’s an amazing little store called The Veggie Wagon just minutes from where we’re staying that sells fresh (local!) fruits and vegetables, hand-poured milkshakes, draft beer and fresh-baked sourdough bread (along with a bunch of other deliciousness). We love to go there to pick out a few things for dinner, get the kids a shake and enjoy a drink together on their patio.

I have to shout out this Free People sweatshirt! It's nice and baggy but has a fun open back that keeps it playful. It's 100% cotton so it's breathable and also great for warmer weather.

This Towel, These Birks & This Sweatshirt Are Also My New Go-Tos

I’ve been carrying this PackTowl beach towel everywhere, and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s lightweight, soft and quick-drying, and folds down much smaller than any other towel I’ve had. It’s perfect for throwing over a picnic table or on the sand or quickly drying off wet feet after the beach. (It soaks up four times its weight in water and its anti-odor treatment means it won’t start smelling!)

Birks have been my go-to summer sandals for years now because of how insanely comfortable they are. I’ve worn them alllll around, walking miles in them. The shearling pair I’m wearing here are so cozy that I’ve also been wearing them inside as slippers. They add just a little bit of warmth that’s perfect for spring weather. And when we go to the beach I’m wearing these lightweight waterproof ones that make getting my feet wet and sandy no big deal…and I’m loving that purple color!

Finally, I have to shout out this Free People sweatshirt (the back of this similar sweatshirt is also amazing). It’s nice and baggy but has a fun open back that keeps it playful. It’s 100% cotton so it’s breathable and also great for warmer weather. I love that it looks cute with bralettes and sports bras (the one I’m wearing has great support!) and swimsuits alike; it’s perfect for post-workout or as a coverup. (Size down! I went with the xs and it was perfect.) Don’t forget to use our code THEMOMEDIT for 15% off your first full-priced purchase (some exclusions apply!).

Happy exploring, everyone!

XOXO,

Scotti

  1. I wanted to let you know anytime backcountry is the link, it just hangs up and won’t load. I’ve seen this happen over months and months. This time I just got so tired of it. I can’t even get to the cargo pants I want to see!
