This is *not* my big try-on article for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale of 2022. This is not The One. I’m still working on that one — it’ll be coming out tonight. Fingers crossed it’ll be out in a few hours, but worst-case, we’ll drop it right before Ambassador shopping starts at midnight, so check back.
The biggest difference between when I first started this nonsense all those years ago in a Nordstrom dressing room and now…is our team. We’ve somehow grown into an actual company, with full-time employees and everything, and I can’t say enough good things about them. And one of the (many) benefits is that we’re now able to pull together — in short order — this quick little sneak peek of some of our NSale favorites so far.
OK. I’m turning this over to them, guys. Stay tuned for more.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2022 Sneak Peek: Shana’s Try-Ons (AKA #DressingRoomSelfies)
First rule? Ignore Shana’s shoes. She didn’t have time to work in footwear just yet, AND she definitely didn’t have time to, um, “hem” those jeans (haphazardly with scissors, as I recall), so most of the time she’s wearing her tallest platform shoes. If you care, they’re an old pair of Chloe denim platforms, that look somewhat similar to this pair, OR she grabbed Linzi’s Veronica Beard clogs (both link to Saks — sacrilege! haha, just kidding)
Let’s get into it!
1. Top 5 Finds
A. Veronica Beard Wide-Leg & La Ligne Sailor Sweater
We’re declaring these wide-leg jeans the winners of the sale (I know, I know, it’s early). But they look freaking amazing with everything, and Linzi loves them too. (Her selfies will be coming out soon!) But it’s this 100% cotton La Ligne sweater that looks even better in person.
B. Vince Jacket
Jacket (S) | Wide-Legs (26) | Sweater (S)
I expect you’ll see more of this very versatile cropped blazer in Shana’s larger selfie post. Not only does it look cute when showing off a high-rise, but it even works over longer sweaters (and we’re excited to see it over dresses too).
C. La Ligne Striped Sweater
Cotton striped sweaters — you know that’s Shana’s jam. She’s been totally obsessed with La Ligne’s 100% cotton sweaters since…2017?? With its natural, 100% cotton fabric, it’s the type of sweater you can wear layered in the winter or over a bikini top with denim shorts in the summer. Definitely a forever-classic worth investing in. And that crop on this particular one above is perfect for sitting nicely over or slightly tucked into high-waisted jeans.
D. Reiss Asymmetric Top
If you only get one new little black top…THIS. It’s cute on the hanger, sure. But once you slip it on…WOW. And for the price (just under $80), S definitely recommends this one. Hey, date night…we’re ready for you.
2. Perfect Fall Blazers
A. Fave Blazer From L’AGENCE
Blazer (6, needs a 4) | Wide-Legs (26)
One of the early (happy) surprises of the sale? BLAZERS. This L’AGENCE double-breasted topper is an early favorite of Shana’s. It’s almost 100% cotton (technically, 90%), so even though it’s a pretty thick blazer, it won’t be as heavy as the 100% wool options. And can we talk about the bouclé texture and army-green color? Fall wardrobe perfection. (Note: S is wearing a 6 here but needs a 4.)
B. Battle Of The Classic Plaid Blazers
A.L.C. Blazer (4) | Rails Blazer (S) | Wide-Legs (26) | Top (XS)
At first blush, these blazers seem pretty comparable, but the A.L.C. plaid (left) is especially good. From its pretty gold buttons, luxe fabric and perfect structure — this one’s a stunner. The Rails blazer is…fine…maybe even a bit better in person but not Shana’s fave.
A.L.C. Blazer
A.L.C. Blazer (4) | Wide-Legs (26) | Top (XS)
A closer look at that gorgeous A.L.C. double-breasted blazer. Plus, we have good news for our taller gals: There are matching pants. Though the pants didn’t quite work on Shana’s shorter frame, they’re pretty special if you’re into the chic power-suit look. (I mean, who isn’t?!)
Rails Blazer
Rails Blazer (S) | Wide-Legs (26) | Top (XS)
Ahhh, the Rails. S mentioned that this one didn’t photograph as well as she’d like, but it’s still a “pass” for her.
C. Statement Blazers
Smythe Blazer
Blazer (4) | Wide-Legs (26) | Top (XS)
This fitted Smythe blazer could make even the biggest Neutrals-Lover want to embrace some color. And check out that shoulder detail…gorgeous (and just enough). We’re excited to see this unexpected brand pop up in the sale this year!
L’AGENCE Plaid Blazer
Blazer (4) | Wide-Legs (26) | Top (XS)
Decisions, decisions. This L’AGENCE plaid blazer is giving that A.L.C. above a run for its money. If you’re having a hard time choosing, make sure to click through and check out the print on this one. That red-and-black plaid is perfectly classic, yet somehow fresh at the same time.
Veronica Beard Farley Blazer
Veronica Beard is pulling out all the stops for us this NSale, and its Farley Blazer is no exception. This one is another front-runner for Shana. And could this rich merlot color replace our beloved black this fall? We think yes.
Veronica Beard Leather Blazer
Blazer (4) | Jeans (28) | Sweater (XS)
Did we expect S to pull out a fabulous, blue-gray leather blazer? No. No, we did not. But…we’re obsessed. The leather-blazer trend is one to keep an eye on this fall — it’s like your leather jacket’s sophisticated older sister who came to town. We’re loving how S styled this look with some washed-black jeans, that striped La Ligne sweater and her checked Vans.
3. Cozy Vince Sweaters
A. Vince Tunic Sweater
This Vince ribbed sweater looks a little stiff online, but it’s MUCH better in person than on the website. And if you’re around Shana’s height (about 5’3″), it might be slightly longer, tunic-like even. The best part, though, is the cashmere-wool blend. Give us alll the soft sweaters.
B. Vince Cardigan
Cardigan (XS) | Wide-Legs (26)
Yup, Shana’s wearing a cardigan. And she’s…rocking it. Notice she tucked it into her wide-leg jeans here, giving the illusion of legs-for-days. Since this Vince cardigan has proved to be half-tuckable, it’s a great option to pair with your go-to high-waisted denim. Oh, and that color? Gorgeous.
C. Wear This Theory Jacket On Top
Theory Jacket (S) | Sweater (S) | Wide-Legs (26)
Utility-style jackets, like the Theory one above, are something we’ll be seeing more of this fall and winter. Think: big pockets and straight, tailored necklines. Instead of crunchy fabrics (you know which ones we’re talking about, right?), S found this pretty pink coat in a luxe wool-cashmere blend. Definitely one of her favorite finds so far.
4. Spot-On Frank & Eileen Tops
A. Cotton Jersey Popover Rugby Shirt
Rugby Shirt (S) | Wide-Legs (26)
Frank & Eileen is a brand S has been familiar with (and loved) for years now. So, of course, she managed to find some great pieces in the NSale. First find: an unexpected top. It’s a cross between a rugby polo shirt and a tunic style you’d normally find in a lightweight linen. But this one is 100% cotton and almost drapes like a T-shirt would.
B. Two Button-Up Tops
Raw-Hem Button-Up (S) | Striped Button-Up (S, right)
The next two Frank & Eileen finds ended up being super-simple button-up tops. Besides the pretty color and versatility of both options, they’re both…yep, you guessed it: 100% cotton. They could be dressed up for work or worn unbuttoned with some denim cutoffs and a tank — everyone’s go-to summer uniform this year.
5. Random Shit We Like
A. La Ligne Crochet Sweater
So…bad news. This La Ligne crochet sweater isn’t in the sale. We may have accidentally been distracted by the gorgeousness, not realizing that fact at first. It was love at first sight for S, so we had to include it. An Aprés Ski-Lover’s perfect sweater (aka Shana).
B. rag & bone Wrap Cardigan
Cardigan (S) | Sweater (S) | Wide-Legs (26)
Sometimes Shana pulls tricks out of her hat like layering an open-knit wrap cardigan over another sweater. This is giving us the very best kind of classic, collegiate vibes. However, we can definitely see S dressing up this cardigan multiple ways (with dresses, trousers, etc.). We love a multifaceted piece!
C. Veronica Beard Top & Jeans
An easy way to take a comfortable cotton shirt up a notch? Try to find one with interesting sleeves like this one from Veronica Beard. Again, it’s in that pretty merlot shade we’re all googly-eyed for. As for the jeans, they’re in that perfect vintagey-black shade we’ve been loving for years. S cuffed hers this time (but I’m sure later she might consider hacking off the bottoms). For our tall gals, these would probably hit right at or above your ankle.
D. Rails Flannel Jacket
Jacket (S)| Sweater (XS) | Wide-Legs (26)
Although this flannel jacket wasn’t in Shana’s top picks of the bunch, she did like it. It’s nothing too special, but it’s still an interesting jacket for that summer to fall transition. The cut of the jacket works great with high-waisted jeans. Super-flattering.
6. Random Shit We Don’t Like
rag & bone Striped Zip Sweater & La Ligne Dress
S really wanted to love the zip-up sweater (we wanted her to too). When you zip it up, unfortunately, it bubbles out…so this won’t be a keeper. As for the dress, while it is pretty, it’s very similar to Shana’s much-loved 100% cotton Staud dress. According to S, the Staud dress has a slightly better cut (the skirt is swingier, the top more flattering), and we’re going to go for 100% cotton over the polyamide blend of the La Ligne dress every time. The La Ligne dress is $274 on sale, and the Staud dress is only $11 more (not on sale) and definitely the better buy. (If interested, you can see S wearing the Staud dress in NYC here.)
