Let’s just jump to the point, shall we? I think I found the perfect travel outfit.
Or at the very least, I found the perfect travel pants. They’re easy to wear, extremely light, and even have interesting little details. They’re sporty but pretty, and available in three stunning hues fit for dopamine dressing.
But it took a major packing fail for me to find them.

This past month we set out on our first real vacation since having our son. It had been almost three years since we traveled by airplane, so when packing for the long travel days, I reached for a comfortable classic: a matching sweat set. I always think styling sweats is really cute, but mostly it just felt practical since I tend to get super cold on airplanes (and on long car rides, for that matter).
Turns out that was the wrong decision.

Somewhere between running after an excited toddler, trying to hold his wiggly body while standing in lines, and taking him for numerous diaper changes, I realized I no longer “run cold” while traveling. I was wearing too much fabric. I needed something lighter.
I ran to the store and was elated when I found the very pair of pants that I had been eyeing online for the past few weeks. There was one pair left in my size, and I scooped them up without even trying them on; I just had a hunch these would be an easy, comfy outfit-maker.
BOY, did I nail it this time.

The Spring Trekker Pants are not only aptly named for exactly what I was wanting them for, but they are soft — like silky soft without actually being silk material.
They sit high waisted with a really pretty paper bag drawstring waist. There are a lot of little details like that that make these pants a notch above any other casual pants I own. They have a bunch of fun utility-style pockets that are actually practical with zippers and strong closures, and even zippers at the ankle if you don’t want the leg to be as tapered.

These pants have a relaxed fit and are light and airy, which will make them an excellent choice even as the weather continues to get warmer. I’m not someone who likes to travel by plane or in long car rides wearing shorts, so these will absolutely be what I grab this summer for any and all travel.
How I’m Wearing The Free People Spring Trekker Pants For Spring & Summer Travel
I love the waistline of The Spring Trekker Pants so much that my go-to has been tucking in a fitted tee or simply opting for a full bodysuit to pair with them.
Throwing on a light button-up as an extra layer is really cozy and cute – I wear this One Scout Jacket from Free People with everything. It’s a forever closet piece for me that I own in multiple colors (the “bubble tea” color is currently en route to my front door). It’s also cute as a main top, buttoned all the way up (often how you’ll see me wearing it).

We traveled back home to the Midwest and were met with bitter cold spring temps (surprise, surprise), so I swapped my light button-up for one of my favorite fleece jackets once we were outside of the airport.
FP Movement’s Hit The Slopes Printed Fleece Jacket is a slightly thicker, structured fleece than the original Hit The Slopes Fleece Jacket and is really perfect for the fluctuating temperatures this time of year. My black check pattern is a bit old and not as well stocked anymore, but there’s a ton of other fun patterns and colors to choose from!

As for the backpack? It’s actually my diaper bag that I wore all throughout traveling. I swear by these bags. They have every detail mapped out, and the structured bottom makes it easy to set down, which was incredibly nice for the airport!
