As I sit here, it’s actually starting to snow. Real, beautiful, softly-falling flakes. (Of course, it’s supposed to turn to freezing rain in a few hours, but let’s not talk about that.) I have Christmas music playing (sacrilege!! sacrilege!!), a hot cup of coffee next to me, and a slice of fruitca– wait a minute….MA!! WHERE’S THE FRUITCAKE?
This Wedding Crashers Holiday was brought to you by TME.
You’re welcome.
A Casual Thanksgiving Outfit
For an easy, casual dinner with friends….a soft, loose-fitting dress and OTK boots is my go-to combination. I love the color of this one, and the peek of lace bra.
The Outfit
dress: Voloshin Jovita Dress, XS – This dress by one of my favorite local designers is currently on sale for $168 (down from $228). Take an additional 10% off with code MOMEDITBONUS10! NOTE: On their website, the color (Sumac) looks really brown. It is NOT. The color pictured above is the true color.
boots: Stuart Weitzman Midland Boots – These remain one of my most-beloved, most-worn boots. For a more affordable option, Gwen swears by Marc Fisher’s OTK boots (they are very similar).
bra: Madewell Longline Lace Bra – One of my favs.
The Hostess Gift
I like to keep a pack of these gold star gift tags handy to throw on a bottle of wine (or booze). It’s the easiest thing to grab on our way out the door.
A Cozy Dress For a (Slightly) Dressier Thanksgiving
Sweater dresses are kind of amazing during the holidays. The best ones are warm, comfortable and look put-together, all at the same time. Of course this piece can easily be dressed down, but with chic black boots and earrings, it’s totally party-ready.
I like this particular sweater dress for Thanksgiving because the cut is a little more forgiving — it’s not quite as fitted as, say, this one.
The Outfit
dress: Banana Republic Sweater Dress, XXS – I tried on the XS in our Banana Republic Dressing Room Selfies, and am glad I ordered the smaller size. Also in petite or tall sizes.
boots: Free People Cecile Ankle Boots – These have been my go-to black booties for YEARS. Why? Because the shaft is a perfect height and softness, and the heel is completely walkable.
earrings: J.Crew – Obsessed with the vintage vibe.
The Hostess Gift
Each holiday season, I keep meaning to stock my fridge with three small boxes of locally-made chocolates to use as last-minute hostess gifts. If they’re not needed? We’ll happily eat them in January. If you’re local, my favs in Philly are Marcie Blaine Chocolates — you can make your own gift box at Verde (on 13th St).
A More Formal Thanksgiving Dress
And by formal, I don’t mean a Formal Fete In Which One Wears a Gown. I just mean a Thanksgiving where one is excepted to Get Dressed For Dinner in something Rather Nice. In these situations, a simple velvet shift would be my pick. This little number from Banana Republic has been my breakout favorite. It’s chic, easy, flattering, and comfortable. Add pumps if you need it to be fancier, but I like it with big earrings and OTK boots.
The Outfit
dress: Banana Republic Velvet Shift Dress, Petite Size 0 – I love that Banana does petites. It’s the reason I didn’t have to hem this dress. Happily, this dress also comes in regular or tall sizes, if you’re worried about the length (I’m 5’2″). Also, this dress is a seriously stunning navy.
boots: Stuart Weitzman Midland Boots – These remain one of my most-beloved, most-worn boots. For a more affordable option, Gwen swears by Marc Fisher’s OTK boots (they are very similar).
earrings: J.Crew – Obsessed with the vintage vibe.
The Hostess Gift
I’m obsessed with these beautiful match bottles from Skeem Design. We’re on a mission to only keep things that bring us joy…and seeing this on a shelf (instead of a handful of half-used match packets hiding in various junk drawers all through our house) is one of them. Anthropologie is carrying “Burn Brightly,” Uncommon Goods has the poetry ones, and Jet.com has the mini-astronomy matches.
Enjoy your holiday!

Thanks for the hostess gift idea. PS: Free shipping at Skeem on orders over $70!
The velvet Banana dress seems perfect for the holidays! It could be dressed up or down so easily. Love it!
I bought the Banana velvet in navy, it will be for Christmas dinner. It’s beautiful, thanks for finding it for me!
I love that you included hostess gifts!
