I talk a lot about balance here on TME. What I’m referring to when I say that is that I rarely stick with just one style in any of my outfits. For example, if I’m wearing something romantic, I’m definitely pairing it with something more badass. You might see me in a preppy jacket, but you’ll never see it  with a sweater set and tailored pants. My m.o. when getting dressed is creating interesting combinations, pairing things that ‘don’t go together’ but work together. Approaching outfitting this way says intentionality and creativity, and it’s what I love about this work. This is my creative outlet and way of expressing my vibe, my aesthetic and the look that resonates with me. I truly adore how clothes allow us the opportunity to do that every day. It’s like painting on a brand new canvas each morning. So fun!

Midi Dress With a Moto Jacket & Killer Boots

When it comes to pieces I don’t wear all the time, like dresses, I definitely rely on my more badass items to balance out the femininity. I kinda think you can’t go wrong pairing a great moto jacket with a dress. It just works so well to create that balance I’m talking about. If glam is totally your vibe, you might wear a faux fur jacket here or a beautifully tailored trench coat with this for a more classic look. My favorite will always be a leather jacket.

Take your pretty midi dress down a notch, from formal to casual, by pairing it with pieces uniquely you — a moto or sneaks, maybe? Do YOU. Here's how we do.

Topshop Python Shirt Dress – (US 6) I can’t tell you how much I love this. The two front slits are perfect for this shorter frame (they show some skin to break up the long pattern) and the print is just gorgeous. I typically size up in Topshop, but this time I went with my regular size (the 6 fits like a 4). LOVE this. It’s going quickly. This zebra print is also rad and the same dress cut.

AllSaints Bales Jacket – (US 6) Go-to moto.

Amalfi by Rangoni Piccola Boot – (TTS) Or this one is gorgeous, too. This style seems to be selling out this time of year, but here’s another option.

Emma Convertible Belt Bag – So cute and versatile. Converts to a leather shoulder strap or a chain, like i have here.

Midi Dress With A Jean Jacket & Sneakers

Dresses and denim jackets are a no-brainer for spring, but I love how pairing sporty sneakers with this pretty dress give it some cool street cred for an everyday look. The denim and sneakers combo works like the moto jacket above, and because they’re super casual, slightly tougher, pieces they also balance out the preciousness of the dress. I mean, however precious a snake print dress can get. Ha. You know what I mean.

Levi’s Ex-Boyfriend Trucker in Dream of Life – I love a lighter wash for spring to lighten up all my darker clothing. You may remember this post from a couple of years ago where I talk about just that.

Adidas Superstars – Somehow these magical shoes go with everything and add the right sporty vibe and make your legs look great.

As I write this, I’m thinking this should essentially be called “The Only Two Ways I Ever Wear Dresses” because it’s pretty much just that. Ha.

What this all comes down to is wearing what makes you feel comfortable and feel the most you. We can all find our place in fashion…where we feel like we shine and where our inside is well-represented by our outside and we feel confident. Here’s to finding that for ourselves and encouraging that for our kiddos.
