Mike and I took the boys home to Michigan recently, and ended up making a quick trip to Detroit. It was — shockingly — a really, really fun city to visit in the winter. (I hear Detroit is even better in the summer, but we had a total blast, cold or no.) If you’d like to see what we did (and more importantly where we ate, haha), check out the article 24 Hours in Detroit, In Winter.
Detroit In Winter: Weekend Trip Packing List
Despite the glamorous buildings, Detroit is one of the most casual cities we’ve visited. That said, depending on dinner plans, dressing up *might* be in order (but for our itinerary, jeans were completely fine).
The bigger issue (at least in winter) is the cold. Detroit can be freezing. Don’t forget a cute hat and mittens.

What I Wore In Detroit During The Day (Hanging With Kids, Obvi)
This is basically my go-to uniform for exploring any city (Detroit, Philly, NY, etc.,) in the winter: Cashmere sweater, skinny jeans, sneaker boots (waterproof, warm AND walkable) and my Lolë puffer coat. I’ll add a cute hat & mittens when I need them, and I always make sure my bag is juuuust big enough to fit said cute hat and mittens.

What I Wore In Detroit At Night
I’m all about cute tops with flares right now, and sliding a pair of tall-ish boots under them (with tall socks) adds even more warmth.
Our big night out was actually in our hotel, so I didn’t need to worry about bitter cold, but if we had ventured out, I definitely would’ve been wearing that faux-fux coat.

What I Wore Lounging Around the Hotel
Running down for morning coffee, or lounging in the game room…this is what I wore (adding a black turtleneck sweater, if cold). The gray loungewear set (pictured in the collage) is another great option.

silk cami (xs) – Also worn during the day under my turtleneck sweater for more warmth | cashmere sweatpants (xs) – these run REALLY big. On crazy sale at Everlane | slippers (slim and super easy to pack)
Cute Pajamas
Does one need cute pajamas for a weekend trip? Nope. But are they realllllly fun to have on hand, especially in a nice hotel room? YES. Yes, they sure are.

printfresh PJs (size small)
Sometimes I do these articles just as a way of documenting (for my next trip) a collection that worked really well. And this one definitely did. For such a few number of pieces, it still felt like a ton of different looks. The mix-and-match possibilities were solid. (I did pack one other cozy sweater, but really didn’t need it.)

I live in Detroit (right downtown) and attest to its awesomeness at all times. Glad you enjoyed it! If you ever come back and need recs, give a shout!
