Hey, hey, Gang! The weather is having trouble deciding what season it is here in Philly, and we figured what better way to make getting dressed in the morning more confusing than adding in a style challenge. Maybe it’s the new year, new me energy we’re bringing into 2020, but we’re ready for a challenge.

For the next four weeks, we will post a specific piece (one per week) that we’re working in with everything in our existing wardrobes. Play along with us on social media for a chance to win a $50 gift card to one of our favorite retailers!

The Lowdown: How To Join The Winter Style Challenge

Every Thursday for the next four weeks we’re gonna kick off a new Style Challenge. Your mission? Style up the piece chosen for the week and show us what you got! There are two ways to enter the challenge and be sure we see your submission.

  1. Post a pic to Instagram and use the tag #TMEStyleChallenge and @themomedit
  2. Comment on our post on Facebook (the weekly challenge kickoff post) with a photo

Week 1: Plaid Flannel Shirts (Become The Sexy Lumberjack You’ve Always Wanted To Be)

January 17th – January 23rd

Our winter outfit gift to you: the reader style challenge! Existing closet + overalls, headbands, flannel shirts & slip dresses. It's both 90s & modern. Let's go.

I already know exactly how I’m styling this one (not that it’s a challenge or anything…but it totally is). Another perfect option in this style challenge to add a little yeehaw to your life with a cowboy hat. Combo it with overalls for the absolute LOOK of the season (I promise you I will be your own personal hype squad if you do this). How DO we make plaid flannel happen again without bringing back 2000s Avril Lavigne?

Week 2: Give Us The Slip (Dress)

January 24th – January 30th

Our winter outfit gift to you: the reader style challenge! Existing closet + overalls, headbands, flannel shirts & slip dresses. It's both 90s & modern. Let's go.

What could be more elegant and tempting than a sexy slip dress? How about a slip dress paired with some toe socks? No? Just me? Listen I know you guys will do way better at styling this little number than I will, but I’m ready for the challenge.

Week 3: Bring Out Your Inner Blair Waldorf With A Headband

January 31st – February 6th

Our winter outfit gift to you: the reader style challenge! Existing closet + overalls, headbands, flannel shirts & slip dresses. It's both 90s & modern. Let's go.

The perfect accessory to almost any outfit, the crown atop a more casual head, the signature of a certain Gossip Girl…the headband. We’ve seen some super-cute headbands floating around the blog in the last few months, but we’re always on the hunt for more to covet.

Week 4: Just A Touch of Throwback With Overalls

February 7th – February 14th

Our winter outfit gift to you: the reader style challenge! Existing closet + overalls, headbands, flannel shirts & slip dresses. It's both 90s & modern. Let's go.

Listen — if there’s one thing I really want to come to the forefront of style, it’s overalls. Whether you’re aiming for punk rock bassist trapped in a love triangle or farmhand girl-next-door who don’t need no man, the possibilities are endless and achievable. They just need a little (or more) help from their friends: shoes, coats, bags, tops, accessories, (and mayhaps a cowboy hat).

Your Resident Dungeon Master,

Syd

  1. Oooh! Yay!! I love the style challenges and can’t wait to see what everyone puts together! Side note…we claimed plaid flannel in the ‘90s when Avril was still a toddler! ?

  2. I’ll have to pass. Turns out I don’t own a single one of these items. Shrunk my flannel in the wash a year ago, bias cut clingy fabric looks bad on my bottom heavy self, long face and hair bands don’t mix and 6’3″ tall woman in overalls??? ? Usually I can play along with at least a couple of items. Looking forward to the next challenge.
