Everything I’m Loving At Abercrombie (An Exceptionally Successful Try-On Sesh)

I feel like I kinda turned my back on Abercrombie somewhere around 2006. Maybe it had to do with the cologne they were pumping through the HVAC system, or the shirtless models, or the scantily clad female employees — or the said scantily clad female employees OFFERING MY HUSBAND A JOB. (To be fair we weren’t engaged yet, but we had most definitely just moved across the country together and had bonafide post-collegiate desk jobs when he was approached in the mall by a clipboard-wielding high-schooler armed with the stunning opener hi, you look like you’d be a great fit for retail. Cannot make this stuff up.)

Anyway.

And then one day a couple of years ago, I made my way to the Abercrombie website at the recommendation of a blogger friend who was raving about their denim (#influenced), and I was hooked. Online Abercrombie, it turns out, is my favorite Abercrombie. All the timeless, subtly Americana styles, none of the questionably lit dressing rooms and eau de whoa.

Abercrombie So Good: My Home Try-On Sesh

Here’s everything I bought and loved in my latest try-on haul.

1. The Most Flattering Puffer Jacket

Puffer Coat // Fleece // Plaid Shirt // Dark Denim (in Rinse wash) // Shoes

I know, I know. Big boxy puffers with big fluffy hoods are the thing, but as someone who generally doesn’t love (and/or need) a puffer coat at all, it’s pretty big news that I’m leading off with this one. It’s so freaking cute, guys. I wish I had better words for it, but…it just…is. Super-thoughtful details, too, like the side snaps that allow you get in and out of the car easily, even when the coat is fully zipped. I layered it over a long-sleeved button down and a very fluffy fleece, and it was still comfy. Wearing an XS (TTS).

2. A Truly Comfy Pair of Dark High-Waist Jeans

Cami // Ivory Cardigan // Plaid Shirt // Dark Denim (in Rinse wash) // Shoes

Been pretty all-consumed by rigid or nearly rigid denim, so these stretch high-waist jeans felt like a breath of fresh air. So much so that I’m considering wearing them for Thanksgiving, and you should all know that I have a secret superpower of bloating like a roadside raccoon at the mention of butter, so this is a substantial endorsement. The darker rinse and skinny fit feels dressier for the holidays, too. I see myself getting loads of wear out of these. Wearing a 25R (TTS, but I chose to cuff the hem).

3. And A Truly Comfy Pair of Distressed High-Waist Jeans

Cami // Distressed Denim // Shoes

Same deal with these babes — enough stretch to hold you in without pinching, and they feel like they’d maintain their shape decently with continued wear. The distressing is, in my opinion, just right, and the ankle length is always super versatile. Wearing a 25R (TTS).

4. The Softest. Freaking. Fleece. Ever.

Plaid Shirt // Fleece // Dark Denim (in Rinse wash) // Shoes

Literally the softest thing my hand has graced this season — this one is a total no-brainer. The texture is fluffy and nubby and almost teddy bear-y but so much cozier. It’s longer in the back, too, which I take as a clear sign to Wear With Leggings. So many colors, too, including a cool B+W buffalo check. Wearing an XS (TTS).

5. A Not-Overtly-Holiday Plaid Shirt

Plaid Shirt // Long Cardigan // Dark Denim (in Rinse wash)// Shoes

Speaking of B+W buffalo check, this shirt checks all my flannel shirt boxes. Ha. Soft. Versatile. Seasonal, but not so seasonal that it doesn’t work at other times of year. (Imagine it with cutoffs in the summer — it works.) Admittedly Basic AF, but I’m not bothered. I went for the S (I’m usually an XS) because I wanted the option to wear it longer, like a tunic, tucked, tied or tied around my waist, so the slightly oversized fit won out.

6. This Crazy Sexy (Cool) Cami Bodysuit

Cami // Distressed Denim // Dark Denim (in Rinse wash) // Ivory Cardigan // Shoes

Didn’t think I was a bodysuit person. Didn’t think I was silky lace cami person. Turns out I’m both so long as they’re together. This this is flattering as all heck. I’m not wearing a bra with it in the pictures, but it did fit with a pretty basic nude strapless that I tried on with it after. There’s a little hook-and-eye, so the “wrap” top stays wrapped, and it pulls off that perfect, easy blouse-y tucked look flawlessly thanks to the bodysuit. Available in Black and Cream, too, and in a version with dainty button details instead of the wrap. Honestly, I want them all. Wearing a S (I’m a little long-waisted and read it ran small, and I would agree.)

7. This Long, Drapey Cardigan

Long Cardigan // Cami // Distressed Denim // Shoes

I wear my Topshop cardigan from the NSale so very often, I’ve been looking for another piece with similar proportions to add my closet. This one is a little less slouchy and a little more polished with the shawl collar but no less wearable. Super soft — almost chenille in hand. Available in Black, Gray, Cream and Camel, too. Wearing an XS.

8. This Short, Button-Up Cardigan

Ivory Cardigan // Dark Denim (in Rinse wash) // Shoes

I picked this up thinking it would be a sweet topper for a floral dress, but I think I actually like it best worn alone, as a top. The balloon sleeves are fun and, combined with the cropped fit, give the whole thing kind of a playful vibe. Just long enough to tuck into high-waisted jeans, which I think is my favorite look. (Even debating wearing it for TDay with those dark rinse jeans up there.) Available in Black and Camel, too. Wearing an XS.

9. A Playful, Neutral Beanie

Beanie // Plaid Shirt // Dark Denim (in Rinse wash)

I always feel like a middle schooler wearing a beanie — especially one with a pom pom — but this one is both playful and subdued, which is totally my beanie jam. It’s unlined, so it’s not too warm, and the little fur-top detailing is just whimsical enough. Plus, the second I put on an adorable beanie, I feel like I’m in a Hallmark movie. Just add ice skates.

  1. I love that cami bodysuit! It’s just what I’ve been looking for! I’m definitely getting the fleece for my girls for Christmas, too. I’ve been really happy with Abercrombie the past few years. Their kids section is great, too!

  2. Thank you so much, Emily! Super fun to see your great choices and how they fit. I ended up with that lovely cami (I really like it but wouldn’t have gravitated toward it without seeing how cute it looked on you!), ivory sweater, plaid shirt and the extra-long puffer. Along with some denim and cute lounge pants. Love them all! Thanks again!

    • You’re so welcome! Honestly there are so few bad choices this season — they’re doing their basics really well. But the items like that cami? They make a piece that would usually feel too high-maintenance for me totally doable. Hope you love it all!
