Anyone else have a partner who “isn’t really into clothing” but yet always has strong opinions about it? Omg. Hi. I do.
Pinky, my husband, and yes, there’s a whole story to his name — short version: he managed a Latin-Disco-Punk band in San Francisco in the early ’90s and needed a stage name…and it stuck — hates clothes shopping. I recently found out he once got totally lost in a department store as a young kiddo and it’s haunted him ever since. Haha. Omg, I’m trying not to laugh at what was probably traumatizing. I do remember that sinking feeling a few times when I briefly couldn’t find my mom among the towering racks of clothes.
Little did he know…down the road he’d be married to someone who made shopping their actual job. We NEVER go to stores together unless absolutely necessary. They’re my creative happy place and apparently his stuff of nightmares. All this to say, he’s really hard to buy for because of this hatred AND the fact that he’s opinionated about what he wears.
Best Of The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: 2 Casual Outfit Ideas For Men
Well, this isn’t even a sponsored post, but I truly love Nordstrom when it’s time to shop for Pinky. I can easily order him things to try on and easily return if they don’t work. This saves us a ton of headaches. As a stylist and designer, I can’t let the man run around in his old, worn-out pieces or the random too-big items he picks up on Costco runs, so herein lie our issues. But at least I’ve discovered a couple of things that work, and we only delve into this venture like once or twice a year. But, look how cute he looks when we do come together on this! Dang. He really should learn to work with me more often. 😉
Outfit 1: Collared Shirt & Comfy Jeans
I love how this outfit worked out for a simple work-from-home-appropriate look that’s still comfortable. As you can see here, I tend to stick to a simple color palette when ordering for Pinky, and it just makes both of our lives easier. I love him in blues, and then grays are easy to mix in. He didn’t want another pair of shoes right now (even though he needs them, eyeroll haha,) but he did love how these fit, how they were flexible, and that they were so lightweight. He’s had Olukai shoes before and got so much wear out of them. The jeans are now sold out, but he thought they were a little too slim anyway. I’ve linked to a very similar wash in a really good AG jean that would complete the look here.
Outfit 2: Casual Pants & Skater Tee
I love sticking with skater brands for Pinky, my California-born guy. They’re just cool and easy without trying hard, and he usually doesn’t complain about the pieces. A great pair of comfy pants that aren’t sweats is a perfect wardrobe addition. This pair of rip-stop pants also looks like a great casual pant that isn’t khakis. If your guy needs a pair of technical pants that lean more workwear, these from Peter Millar look great.
Shop Easy Men’s Outfit Pieces In The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
I tried to keep this roundup easy for our work-from-home or tech/creative industry guys, because that’s what I know best. I don’t pretend to know about suits and higher-end menswear, so I leave that to the professionals.
I hope these offer you and the man you may be shopping for or with some good options from the sale! If your guy has a pair of casual but not-sweatpants-pants he loves, let me know! I’d love to do a roundup of some favorites in that category.
And thanks to my dearest hubs for posing for these pictures. I am honestly so surprised, impressed and thankful that he was down for this. We’re celebrating 10 years married this fall, and I’ll admit I’m a lucky gal (even if his name is Pinky.) Haha. Love you, my dear.
Hey hey from Portland, OR. Would love for you to follow me over on Instagram for all things casual mom-wear, lots of foodie pics and donuts, some kitchen dance parties and some social justice. xo
