My Go-To Fresh & Dewy Makeup Look

Anyone get whiplash from the countor/heavy foundation/bold brow of a year ago to the dewy, minimal glow the kids are sporting today? Me too.

But, I’ve found three new products to take your makeup into 2021 without being a time suck. Paired with the latest Olivia Rodrigo single and you might just trick Gen-Zers into thinking you’re totally hip and cool.

First of all, it’s all about the foundation or tinted moisturizer in my case. I was recently introduced to Huda Beauty GloWish Multidew Vegan Skin Tint Foundation, and it is ahhhmazing. It gives just enough coverage without feeling heavy on the skin or like those drastic Before & After TikTok makeup videos, PLUS it’s Vegan. I’ve been a longtime fan of Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer (that built-in SPF), but there’s something fresher about the dewy finish of Huda Beauty.

The second thing I’ve revamped is my brow makeup. I love a bold brow and Anastasia Brow Wiz has been my trusty sidekick for many years. And while there’s a time and a place for a standout brow, it’s not always, say, the bus stop drop-off. I’ve switched to DipBrow Gel (also by Anastasia Beverly Hills) and just swipe a little on my brows in the morning to provide some definition. I haven’t gone full boy brow, but I do brush them up a tad. While there is a full version, I love the mini because it’s an under $10 way to play with some new makeup.

Finally, I started using a product I haven’t used in years…blush. I’ve never quite figured out blush, but the new trend is to sort of use it like a contour. Find a fairly universal color, like this Makeup by Mario Soft Pop Blush Stick in Dusty Rose, if you’re unsure of the best color for you. It comes with a built-in brush on the other side, which I love.

It can be easy to get stuck in a makeup rut. And while there is nothing wrong with baking that heavy foundation or contouring with bronzer, it’s fun to switch it up every now and then. These three new products have cut down on my makeup routine drastically and allowed me to dip my toe into the current makeup trends.

  1. Excellent make-up tips, but my question in your nails – they are fire. Are those your naturals with a shellac? Are those acrylics? I’m in a nail rut – talk to me.

    • Thank you! So those are my real nails. I find that when I have dip on them, not only will it last 3-4 weeks (I mean the grow out is real, but that’s ok), but it also allows my nails to grow and stay long. These particular nails were partially dip/partially gel, a French manicure with a twist (hot pink instead of white). I’ve been playing with neon colors on my nails and it’s been so fun! Hope that helps!

  2. My easy routine is tinted moisturizer, brow gel, mascara and tinted lip balm. Over the pandemic I have gotten so minimal that a touch of eyeliner and blush feels FANCY. Someday I will put on eyeshadow again and who knows what will happen then.

Have been through many tinted moisturizers in my time (do I sound old? I TOTALLY am.) Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, Tarte… My current favorite is Beautycounter Dew Skin, which has [sound of trumpets and angels] built-in SPF! And is clean! Their Brilliant Brow gel is good too although I tend to alternate with Benefit’s Gimmee Brow because I tend to use them until they are almost completely dried up and then need a new one STAT and am not willing to wait for shipping. But next time I will grab the Anastasia and give it a whirl. Thanks!
