Madewell is definitely one of my go-tos for my daily uniform of jeans and tops/sweaters. Throw in a cardigan or interesting jacket and I’m set. I wear multiple washes of their Cali-Demi Boot Jeans, multiple washes of their Perfect Vintage Denim, and lots of their tops and sweaters as well. My most recent in-store Madewell trip was a total success…lots of items I liked that fit well and felt good on.

Madewell Try-On Sesh: Clothes I Liked

1. Saville Sweater Blazer

I am not a blazer gal (too restrictive and conservative usually), but I love this one. Feels to me more like a coatigan than a blazer. Great color that goes with everything, but I particularly like it with black and denim. I’m wearing a size 28 in the Demi Boot Jeans below (they didn’t have my usual 27 in the store).

2. Hollis Double-Breasted Coat

What is happening to me? I liked a blazer and now a double-breasted coat? I must REALLY be growing up. This is way too conservative for me buttoned, but I like it a lot with casual jeans unbuttoned. Would wear mostly with denim, but like the idea of being able to dress it up with black pants and higher heeled booties.

3. Sherpa Leopard Bomber Jacket

Again—totally not my style. I don’t usually do bomber jackets but I liked this one. It fits more like a short jacket rather than a typical bomber and I like the sherpa fleece…makes it feel more casual and less precious. Not super soft, but I was okay with that with this one.

4. Shrunken Jungle Cat Sweatshirt

I knew I was going to hate this sweatshirt. The idea of “shrunken sweatshirts” is bizarre to me. Sweatshirts should be big and cozy, but the print on this one drew me in. Then, I tried it on and really liked it. Looking at the photos on the model, I think maybe I need to size up and wear the waistband a bit higher and let it blouse over. Not as soft as I would like, but wondering if it will soften a bit with time. Wish I could have tried this cardigan in similar print — may need to order.

5. Smocked Swing Top

I already had this before I went in, but I wear it ALL the time, so figured I’d get a dressing room selfie. This is VERY soft and VERY easy to wear. I love this golden color, but it also comes in white. My fav way to wear it is with flare jeans and my Everlane flats for a simple, but put together look (I’m actually wearing this exact combo as I’m typing).

6. Mercer Turtleneck in Coziest Yarn

So soft. So cozy. And great color selections. This is the kind of sweater I ALWAYS want to wear. Was a little too thick to do the half-tuck properly, but still sort of worked.

7. Ruffled Mock Neck Top

I liked this top with these jeans, but I would probably wear it most with high rise flares and skirts. Really comfortable –nice and stretchy– and a sweet design with sweet details on neck and bottom of sleeve.

8. Plaid Cinch-Sleeve Top

This is the top I didn’t know I needed. Don’t know what to say other than I felt pretty in it. The combo of the pretty neckline, cinching, and the color combo is much better in person. The fabric is soft and drapes nicely. I didn’t like it with blue denim (too much of a “country gal” vibe), but I definitely like it with black, and would like to try it with black pants and a skirt too, as well as a monochromatic look with orange/red/brown pants and shoes.

9. Cashmere Mock Neck Sweater

A lovely simple go-to sweater. Loved where it hit me when worn loose, but also liked it with the half-tuck. Super soft as well.

“Meh”: Other Madewell Try-Ons

10. Minetta Sweater Coat

This didn’t wow me. The pattern and color didn’t do that much for me. Very easy to wear and soft, but not one I would gravitate to.

11. Jungle Cat Blazer Coat

I like the way this looks, but I would like it better if it was more of a cardigan and less of a blazer. I wanted it to be cozier. I think I should have sized up for better drape. I wish I could have tried this one instead.

12. Boatneck Sweater in Stripe Mix

Thought I was going to love this one, but it didn’t work. Wasn’t soft enough, and I didn’t love the pop of white on the sleeves. Was confusing for my eyes. I think I would like it better if it was opposite, with the brown on the sleeves.

13. Sherpa Cocoon Coat

This is not “meh”…it’s quite terrible on me. Maybe it’d be better if I was taller, but I don’t think so. I don’t like it. I don’t like the lower neckline, I don’t like the feel of it on (not cozy enough for what it’s supposed to be), really difficult to work clasps, and just looks bad. Blechhh!
