Are you finding yourself over skinny jeans and cropped flares but needing something in-between that’s easy to wear and flattering? It’s a tricky business, those new jean styles. Shana and I agree that’s kinda where we are these days…in-between denim trends.
I found myself recently scouring the internet for something flattering and interesting that weren’t a dad jeans (I already have those!) and weren’t distressed — as much as I love my distressed jeans, a girl does need options.
While perusing Madewell’s site for sweaters and jackets (I have been less-than-impressed with their jean selection for the past year or so,) I ran across the Slim Demi Boot jeans at 25% off with code SNEAKPEEK. This intrigued me because I used to adore their Cali Demi boot jeans (Linzi’s fav!) and knew this needed more attention. Ordered. Check. Tried. Check. Love! Check!

The Slim Demi Boot Jeans From Madewell: My New Love
These jeans are all I wanted in my new go-to style…
- a) they’re structured almost like rigid denim but have just a bit of stretch (aka they hold you in and they’re warm)
- b) they are high waisted but not organ-crushing (you know what I mean)
- c) they’re booty flattering (a non-negotiable) and…
- d) they’re perfectly flared to balance out hips without looking like a flare
The Slim Demi have a bit of a vintage-vibe that lends to their on-trend fit, but they aren’t too-mom jean or too-dad jean in the cut. The fit it is true to size, but don’t expect the thin stretchiness of the Cali Demi boot, if you have or have tried those.
These are thicker, and it’s why I love them. There’s a little more room in the waist on these (helpful for 2020 honestly,) but they are slim through the hip and thigh, hence the flattering part. I’m wearing my regular size here and in the regular length. At 5’4″, I rarely find perfect-length jeans and I’m sure that’s part of the reason I’m so excited about these.
The Slim Demi boot jeans come in both Tall & Petite sizing, too, and also in a Sundale blue wash (blue-r), a Northhaven blue wash (less blue/deeper), and (only a couple sizes left in) a natural denim color. The black Barnsbury wash is only available at Madewell.com, but the blue washes and the natural are at Nordstrom, too.

Outfit Details
Madewell Slim Demi boot jeans (27 reg) | You’ve heard me rave here! Such a great jean. I’m trying out the Sundale blue wash, too. I’m a black jean girl for the most part, though, and they don’t offer them yet in a lighter blue wash.
AllSaints Balfern moto jacket in berry (US 6) | Favorite moto jacket ever. Soft, incredibly soft. Breaks in beautifully. Runs a tiny bit small, so go up if you’re between two sizes. I have it in black, too.
Zadig & Voltaire tee (s) | I know. The French quote I couldn’t resist and the tee is so beautifully cut. I did buy it on sale. If you’re looking for a French vibe at a lower price point, this one is great. Oh or this cute one at Amazon.
Banana Republic Mid-Top sneaker (tts) | Some of my most-worn sneakers this fall. Cushiony, and the perfect height to be flattering with so many of my jeans and pants without making my legs look shorter.
These remind me slightly of the Everlane Cheeky Straight jean, but with a little bit more width around the ankle, and I think, again, that’s what makes them flattering. I also think these Slim Demis are less baggy around the knees, which I prefer. Have you tried them out? It looks like they were offered in some summer washes that I missed while I was ignoring Madewell. Haha.
I think I just prefer their fall and winter clothing to their spring and summer. I’m so glad we’re back together for my favorite time of year, though! Stay tuned for an upcoming post where I try on ALL the different boots to see what works best with these.

Great jean style! You look great (you always do!)
Thanks so much, Lisa!!
These jeans are adorable on you! What do you do about socks when it gets colder? On you and the models your bare ankles are showing. Help!?!
Thanks so much, Brooke! I just tried on a bunch of boots with them yesterday for a post! So instead of adding socks to my lower rise shoes, I’ll wear boots most likely. I was pleasantly surprised that they work with a ton of different style boots! Post coming soon!
Madewell and I broke up for almost a year, then I went in store yesterday and we’re back on! Ended up with a pair of skinnies with cashmere woven in AND a pair of the stretchy yet rigid looking stovepipe jeans. Could not be more happy. Thank you for reminding me that I really do love Madewell!
