Your Go-To Denim & Plaid… All Dressed Up

This post is sponsored by JCPenney & ShopStyle.

I saw a picture of Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) in the September issue of InStyle wearing buffalo plaid with leopard print and knew I had to try it. It seemed like an easy way to refresh my closet for fall and I love the idea of mixing and matching prints AND styles. Like adding lipstick and heels to a casual pair of jeans. Or throwing faux fur over a Canadian Tuxedo. The result is a little bit unexpected and a lot of fun to wear. JCPenney is one of my go-to’s for an affordable refresh — just like this one.

Fall Outfit Inspo: Dressed Up Denim & Plaid

Dressing Up Plaid

Plaid and denim is a staple where I’m from. Adding heels and faux fur just makes it a bit fancier. (And red lips, of course.) Lots of you guys have been asking us about an alternative to high rise denim and these low-rise straight-leg jeans feel like a fresh option.

Outfit Details:

coat: Sunset and Sixth Faux Fur Coat (small) – SUPER soft and also in a cool old-school chevron print

jeans: Levi’s 505 Straight Jeans (size 28, they run a bit big) – I love the relaxed fit of these jeans and the fact that I can wear them with heels AND boots

shirt: Arizona Long-Sleeved Shirt – super soft and available in a ton of fun plaids for fall

shoes: Liz Claiborne Hara Pumps – these are really comfortable and I love the back zipper so I don’t have to deal with the clasps to get them on and off!

Dressing Up Denim

Faux fur doesn’t need to be saved for special occasions (especially at such an affordable price from JCP) and I like the combo of denim on denim and mixed leopard prints. I left the bottoms of the jeans wide (I tight-rolled them above) and liked that I could wear them with low booties like this as well as heels.

Outfit Details

coat: Sunset and Sixth Faux Fur Coat (small) – super soft and comfy, I love the low-key animal print

boots: CL by Laundry Cicie Stacked Heel Booties (run a bit small – my usual boot size was just a bit snug but ok without socks) – also in a snake print or textured neutral taupe

jeans: Levi’s 505 Straight Jeans (size 28, they run a bit big)

shirt: Levi’s Denim Tunic (size small) – this shirt is long enough to wear with leggings but super easy to tie up like I did here
