I love flares. Leg-lengthening, hip-slimming…they just make more sense to me. I remember when skinny jeans were first becoming A THING, and I was like “NOOOOOOOOO!” I mean, I wear them all the time now, but flares will always be my faves. (And now I’m hearing that low-rise is on the rise (get it??), and I’m like “NOOOOOOOOOO!” But I digress.) The key to flares, which is actually kind of hard to get right, is finding the right length and rise for your body. I’ve tried on some flares that are just waaaaaay too long for me, and cutting off the bottom would change the shape of the jean too much. I’ve also made the mistake where I cut the bottom off before washing them first. That’s a mistake you don’t make twice.
I’d been eyeing Free People’s Penny Pull-On Flares forever, and finally gave them a try (once I started being able to fit into jeans again after having Ozzie). They have a TON of colors online (how pretty is the desert color??), and three inseams (32, 34 & 37) to get the right length. I went with the regular inseam, washed and dried them (they definitely shrunk up in the length), and then cut off just the hemline on the bottom. They’re probably still a tad too long, but I want to be able to wear them with heels. I love them. And now I want them in multiple colors.
