Sometime mid-January it seems like the house is two sizes too small, the kids and their stuff so much bigger, the charming New England winter much less so. Then I remember we haven’t had an adults-only vacation since maybe 2010, and none on the visible horizon…oh hello there, cabin fever! Chances are lots of other mamas (or traveling ladies) on your list will be dreaming of getting away this winter – places they can happily get lost in, with no schedules or demands, faraway from the same four walls. Even if they’ll be staycationing, our top picks for mamas with wanderlust help keep the dream alive!
backpack – Herschel Supply Co. Expedition Mission Backpack Remember the days of jetting off on an impromptu trip with only a backpack as luggage? This one’s got her covered and then some. The streamlined style and cool leather details make this oversized backpack a keeper.
watercolor print – Oh Darling, Let’s Be Adventurers Art Print The world in gorgeous shades of blue & purple will make gypsy hearts beat faster. Perfect in a home office for daydreaming during work breaks.
merino wool wrap – Icebreaker Bliss Wrap I bought this magical wrap/cardigan/sweater a few years ago and don’t know how I lived without it. It’s super versatile – check out the video to see how to wear it four different ways (I made up a 5th way that’s a hybrid of the wrap around and front button, tutorial on request!) It’s the softest non-itchy merino wool blend, great for travel when you don’t have access to laundry – virtually unstinkable! Crumple it up and the wrinkles fall out so you always look chic, even after an overnight flight or million hour delay at O’Hare. I’ve seriously worn and washed mine weekly for the past two years and there’s no pilling or signs of wear. Great option for pregnant mamas too! Ok, I’ll shut up now, but for real. She needs this. (Update: How did I forget to mention it has POCKETS?? Also, my 2 fave ways of wearing here)
travel set – Rebecca Minkoff Adventure Awaits Passport Holder & Luggage Tag I love the ‘refined with an edge’ look Rebecca Minkoff does so well. The pewter is my favorite.
calendar – Travel the World Desk Calendar Rifle Paper does the most beautiful illustrations. Bright drawings of new destinations each month complete with a stylish local lady are so cool. Definitely will spur some imaginary trip planning sessions, especially fun during blizzards! May be the secret to how I survived last winter…
map book – Book of Maps Ok so this is actually for kids, but the illustrated maps are so detailed and fun I think adults would enjoy the heck out of this book. And it could be a fun activity to read with the kids when they get tired of snow fort building (as if) or they’re home sick with the bug du jour.
boots – Seychelles Lucky Penny Booties The only shoe she’ll need to pack – they’re so cute with skinnies, shorts, dresses, all the things! These booties look so perfect for long days exploring new cities – the heel’s small enough to wear all day and reviewers love them. I die over this pewter leather but they come in taupe, black or navy blue suede. So cute and effortlessly stylish. (Update: Readers, I bought them. It’s ok, I’ve been very good this year.)
necklace – A Discovery A Day Necklace Beautiful modern necklace embossed with “explore” in braille. Love love love.
bath oil – REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil Marrakesh, take me away! The best place to escape at the end of a long day with the crazies is a beyond-hot bath and a stack of fresh magazines (pro tip: bathroom fan drowns out the yelling) Rose Otto is a superluxe essential oil used for stress relief and relaxation, plus tightening skin and healing blemishes. Yes to all that, plus smelling like a Moroccan goddess.
Traveling mamas – what are your must-haves when you hit the road? Fave travel makeup palettes, cute carry-on bags, walkable & versatile shoes?
Cheers!
Amanda

That wrap is gorgeous! I NEED one of those!!
Carol – I could happily wear it 7 days a week, think I need more colors so no one catches on!
Could we see some pics of you in the wrap? It looks great – are any of the style options awkward at all? How is the sizing? Thanks!
Yes! Sorry for the delay! I will get some shots of my favorite ways to wear. The sizing is just right, it’s a flowy style so there’s wiggle room and the wool fabric is a little stretchy.

Love the wrap and the booties! And, we have that map book- my boys loved it when they were younger. They still use it as inspiration for their sketches/drawing/painting. It’s fabulous!!! Nice round up.
Thanks, Beth!
Macy’s is taking forever and a day to ship the booties, but I’ll let you guys know how they are once I finally get ’em!
Finallry got the boots! And they are very cool. A bit cowboyish shaped toe when you’re looking straight down, but only slightly. I have narrow feet and scrawny ankles and they fit well, little bit tight across the top of my foot but that should go away once they’re broken in.
I lo e your suggestions! Some of them are very luxiourios and my wanderlust sil doesn’t seem quite like they would fit her personality. I found a scratch off map (where you scratch off all the places you have been!) TJ Maxx had them (must be sold out of the world version which seems a little fancier with a gold scratch off), but here is a link to the US version so you get the idea. Some where else must carry it!

Great idea, Natalie! I bet you could find some unique versions on Etsy as well to match the recipient’s personality. 🙂
