Color, is fun. Color is life. We’ve seen hints of color coming this year, little pops of it in Weekly Favorite Finds, in a desk chair, a throw blanket. We’re wearing it too — as we hint of it in the AllSaints sweater it seems many of us have our minds on. Here and now, though, we’re going to fully celebrate the color(s) of the year with some fun and inspiring home decor to brighten our lives!
Pantone is the company that brings us a universal language for color in design and manufacturing. Each year, they have a secret meeting of color experts and choose a color of the year, that reflects the mood we represent, or sometimes the one we need most in the year ahead.
Decor Ideas For Illuminating Yellow, Pantone 2021 Color Of The Year
For 2021, that team must’ve decided we all need a little extra coming out of the past year, and they chose two colors of the year — Ultimate Gray 17-5104 (to represent “strength, dependability, and enduring”) + Illuminating 13-4607 (to represent “uplifting hopefulness.”) Steady + Bright, sounds about exactly right for #2021.
Ultimate Gray, I can dance around all day, every day — I must have a love for all things dependable, enduring and steady. This Illuminating Yellow though, is a reach for me — it is in fact bright, in a beautiful, almost unexpected, and yet familiar (like the sunshine) kind of way.
So a roundup was in order (remember we did Aegean Teal last fall?)….of fun ways to add bright yellow pops to our home decor, in hopes of all the light that will shine in the year ahead. Sometimes, we gotta put it out there in our universe, for it to truly come to life— so let’s manifest a little light in this year ahead, starting at home!

I love the letter board’s message about standing out here, and this credenza, with its geometric shapes certainly does. Sometimes just a hint of sunshine is all we need!

This is it. If there’s one piece of wall art that captures this moment, and represents the whole idea here of balance and dependability — of grounding and uplifting, bright, illuminating light — this.is.it.
3 | Runner Rug
Run down the halls, next to the bed, in a bath, or kitchen with this fun dot and pop of bright rug love!
4 | Melamine Dishware Set
More meals at home-it’s a thing. Love all white and all black dishes as I do, these are a fun pop to layer with both, and grey just to keep family dinners fresh in 2021. Oh…and they are melamine, which travels to the back patio super well!
5 | Filing Cabinet
I recently ordered one of these for myself, in white with red cut out handles. I LOVE IT! And now I’m considering this one too…just to brighten up one of the kid’s desk areas.
6 | Extension Cable
There’s been chatter, and there’s a post forthcoming, on cleaning-up the cables. This guy though, makes me wonder if we try to hide them, or do we highlight them? He’s fun, running under, next to a white desk, and has multiple ports. I’m in, let’s brighten-up the cord situation.
7 | Rocking Chair
This comes as just a rocker, or as a three-piece-set with two rockers and a table. It’s outdoor, but there’s no rule that says it can’t live indoors as well! Easy rocking fun!
8 | Best Day Ever Throw Pillow
Love all of her graphic pillows, but if there’s one that’s ready for #2021, it’s this. I’m not promising anything, but we can at least try, for Best Day Ever, every day!
9 | Wink Throw Pillow
I recently ordered this fun guy for a friend’s kitchen banquet. If you flip his sides, he winks. We all need a good-looking guy to wink at us every day — here he is, yellow stripes and all!
10 | Layering Throw Pillows
These are great, easy, on-sale pillows for layering with the graphic ones above, and they stand strongly alone too-both indoors and outdoors!
11 | Desk/Console Table
A fun way to add a pop of functional fun color to a hallway as a console, or to a new-found work space as we all resort ourselves to school and work from home in the year ahead!

Also indoor/outdoor — as all good things have come to be. I do love how last year blurred that line and changed the rules there! These are bar height, if you need counter height, they are here. Classic design, reproduced, in a fun color! They stack and clean easily, and last forever!
