Hey hey…it’s Madewell time. You guys know I have a true crush on this brand. I love their overall style, their branding and of course, my favorite jeans are theirs. I thought I’d pop in and see what they were up to for summer. There are some super cute finds, both in denim AND even other fabrics, you guys! (I know, I’m branching out…a little). Above are the things I took home this time, but there were many more I wanted to! Also, the sale items are an additional 20% off right now with code META20  Take a look…

Dresses (and a skirt)

I loved this outfit. I was surprised that I like the flared Beachhouse Eyelet skirt so much! It was a perfect length and super cute. I paired it with the Mixtape Tank Top in stripe (of course) sleeveless top. I’m now thinking this might be a good outfit for the reunion. Hmmm. It’d even be cute with some sneakers. Top: sz Small; Skirt: sz Small.

LOVE this dress. It’s the Denim Courier Shirt Dress. I think this is the only shirt dress I’ve ever thought was flattering on me. I have trouble finding shirt dresses that fit me well. I have to size up too much to get them to fit on my booty and hips. I reeeeally almost brought it home and I still might. It’s so so soft and looks good buttoned up or a few unbuttoned, sleeves cuffed or left down. Love the mod vibe when it’s buttoned. (That wrinkle at the bottom is still bothering me tho! Hahaha) Dress: sz Small, for reference.

I also adored this Silk Cross-Back Dress. Often, one-pieces with an elasticated waist don’t work for me…the waist is off, the top part is too long…but this one was good. I think the accentuated waist is very flattering and of course I adore the tiny star print. There’s a little cutout in back just above the waistline…super cute! Dress: sz 4, for reference.

This Striped Vacances Dress was also cute. I adore the stripes and the fit was good. It’d be amazing with sneakers for a very sporty vibe. The material is a heavier cotton knit. Oh my gosh though I wish Madewell would iron/steam it’s clothing! #wrinkles Dress: sz Small.

Denim

sweater | shorts

Yes! High-Rise Denim Shorts Button-Front Edition… Looking at them now they do accentuate my thighs and hips a bit, but I think that’s the thing with high waisted shorts…they show off some curves in that vintage 70’s way… the half-tuck top helps to balance things out (see below).

I love the button fly and patch pockets and the wash is spot-on. I’d wear them with a flowy top and also balance them out with my Birkenstock sandals that add a little width to my feet. They’d be cute with flat ankle boots, too, for a festival vibe. I did have to size up 1 size from my normal jean size. Sweater: sz Small; shorts: sz 28.

jumpsuit | shoes

Ah, this jumpsuit, the Santa Fe Denim Romper. I lurved it! But, alas, the petite height strikes again. The small was too small around the waist and bust, but the medium here is too long in the torso and inseams. Sadness. When I put my arms down the issues are more visible. It’s so so cute though.

I’d say if you are above 5’4″ this might be so perfect on you (and I will be jealous). It *might* have worked for me to hem the shorts a little but I still think the crotch would’ve been a little too low…my forever problem with jumpsuits. Wah. Super cute. Try it out. Jumpsuit: sz Medium.

vest | dress | shoes

I love this denim vest, (The Pocket Jean Vest). I love a denim vest with a dress. I think it’s the ’90’s girl in me, but it is such a good summer jacket to make many outfits more interesting. I often wear mine with a tank and black skinnies when it’s too warm for a full jacket. They’re also fab as a cool layering piece in fall under a leather jacket or blazer. I have a vintage CK vest at home, but this one was really great, you guys. I’m wearing a small here, but would have needed to try a medium for buttoning. This would be really cute with white jeans, too, and a buttery tan leather sandal. Yes to the vest.

And the dress…it’s a coverup! I adore it. I think I should’ve sized down to an XS as it is a bit big, but the back is amazing. Cutest coverup ever that easily goes to dinner or lunch straight from the beach! Vest: sz Small; dress: sz Small

sweater | skort

Yes, a skort! Denim Mini Skort. Woah flashback to the ’80’s. But, I think it’s cute…from the front. Sadly, the back looks like mom shorts to me, right? Boo. (Also, it’s really difficult to photograph your backside yourself). Why they didn’t do patch pockets, I don’t know. Sweater: sz Small; skort: sz 27.

Other Finds

I really liked this rad Shrunken Trapeze Button Down in Cat Walk print…I mean, for real, the leopard print! The title says shrunken, but I found it to be a nice generous fit (I guess it does say trapeze) and plenty of room in the bust. Am I the only person who doesn’t have a large bust but has the worst time with button downs gaping there? So annoying. Who do they make them for? Anyway, this one is good. Lovely cotton and a fun print. Yes. It’d look great with black overalls… Top: sz Small; Shorts: sz 28, for reference.

So, yes, another striped piece, the Dockline Pullover Sweater. There’s something about summer that makes me want all the nautical stripes. This sweater was great. It’s a bit of an open weave, but still covers. It hits at the perfect length and would be cute over a tank dress for cool nights, too. Sweater: sz Small; shorts: sz 28, for reference.

I loved Shana in the Mirasol jumpsuit so much that I had to try it out, too. It’s so super cute you guys. The tie straps are brilliant for getting a better fit up top and the bottom half of the suit is nice and roomy for those of us with booties. That’s generally a problem I have with one-piece outfits, but this one was great! These shoes are wrong with it. I would definitely choose a strappy flat sandal…something that shows my ankles more.

Sorry about the weird sleepy look on my face. I blame the gray skies this week. We got too used to the sunshine a few weeks ago and now mine won’t open fully…hurry up summer! Jumpsuit: sz Small.

This is the Whisper Cotton Muscle Tank that I brought home. It’s the second one I have (I have it in stripe, too!), but this time I sized down one size for a more fitted look and I love it. I think it works with the darker color, but I’m glad I have the size up in the white and blue stripe. These are my favorite tanks. I want them all. Tank: sz Xsmall; jeans: (Levi’s, not Madewell) sz 28.

Shop What I Tried And More

All in all, some great summery finds and of course, the color palette is so ‘me.’ I hope you’ll check some of it out! Do you have any favorite Madewell pieces? Would love to hear about them!

Happy Memorial Day!

    • Haha. Thanks Samantha! I think it’s the welt pockets on the skort and the length of them in back that say ‘mom shorts’ to me. They just weren’t flattering and read too conservative or something. Hmm. I hope that makes sense!

  1. OMG I tried on that same stars silk cross-back dress yesterday. I agree that the fit is great (I too have similar problems with elastic-waist dresses) but I couldn’t figure out how you could wear a normal bra with it given the back cut out?!?!

    • That was my problem and I have a rule that if I can’t figure out how to wear it with a normal bra, I don’t buy it. I love the print though. It would be my ideal dress if it didn’t have that cut out.

  2. I discovered those tanks this year, and they are now my absolute favorite. Glad to hear it sounds like they stick around each year! I’ve been wondering if I should preemptively stock up.

  3. I was there this weekend and bought that a-line denim skirt pictured above. It’s so cute. I also bought one of their whisper cotton tees.

  4. I love those high rise jean shorts! I think you look fab in them and I love the curves it gives! (I’m totally embracing the 70s going on right now!) And the madewell tanks are amazing!
