If anyone has doubted that stripes are having their moment, just scroll back through our Mom Street Styles – we've seen a plethora of cool moms in stripes lately. However, what I love most about this look (in addition to the twist on the nautical stripes) is that it shows a great way to wear our summer camis well into Fall.
Meet O.E. (a childhood nickname from when her younger brother couldn't quite pronounce Anne Marie). She's our August mom for wearing killer denim, doing the layering thing perfectly, looking well-rested and relaxed, rocking the hoop earrings and having a cool nickname. What's not to love?
First things first: The denim is William Rast. For those of you that haven't tried them, William Rast denim is butt-lifting at it's best.
She pairs her Rasts with an Urban Outfitters striped tank, layered over a fitted white Tee. I didn't ask if she was nursing (how rude!) but the configuration of loose tank over tight Tee is perfect for nursing: You can lift the Tee up and slip the shoulders of the tank down….the result? Babe can nurse without Mum exposing stomach. And as days start to get a bit more chilly, layering our tanks over Tees is another option to keep Summer tanks in Fall rotation. Genius.
I also liked her addition of a beaded choker — it makes the whole outfit a bit more interesting, it contrasts nicely with all of that light-and-bright. So, how to recreate?
Start with cute jeans. William Rast (the Savoy Ultra Low Rise Trouser, $242 at shopbop.com) is pictured above. Find a sleek, fitted white Tee. I really like Gap's Favorite Stretch Tee (above), currently on sale for $12.50. Then, dig out one of your swingy tanks, and add a fun little necklace. I like O.E.'s necklace, but instead of plain beads, you could try something a bit more trendy. Updating your necklace with something current and fun will keep this look fresh. Here are a few combos to serve as inspiration:
Pictured above is Old Navy's Smocked Jersey Cami in Blue Danube, on sale for $10. With it, I'm loving the Galaxy Ribbon and Chain Necklace from J. Crew, $78. Layered over a Tee, this cami and necklace will give a sweet, romantic vibe.
For a slightly tougher look, try Forever 21's Striped Trapeze Slub Top, $10.50, with Express' Coil Necklace, $35.50.
BTW – I would be remiss if I didn't mention O.E's adorable baby, Brooks. He's in head-to-toe True Religion. Lucky boy.
A huge thanks to O.E. for being such a good sport!
