Anyone else waiting oh-so-patiently (ha) for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
We are SO ready.
While we count down the days until the July 24th preview, aka The Day All Will Be Revealed (actual shopping starts August 4th, depending on cardholder status), we thought it would be fun/helpful(?) to look back on some of our very favorite Nordstrom Anniversary Sale finds — and even make some predictions for 2020.
As always, stay completely up-to-date by bookmarking our Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Guide and signing up for our newsletter so when our sale content drops, you’ll be the first to know (we’re planning to give our newsletter subscribers plenty of early looks). Oh! We’ll also be doing some fun stuff on social, too. So give us a follow us on Instagram & The Mom Edit Insiders Group if you haven’t already. Lastly, our coverage is likely going to look a bit different this year…but we’ll have more details on that, later.
My Best-Ever Buys From The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
This…is a really tough question. If I narrow this down just to pieces that A. Survived Several Closet Clean-Outs and B. Are Still Actively Being Worn…I’m still looking at a third(!!) of my closet. So then I tried to simply add up the number of times — in the last year — I’ve used these products, just to see which rise to the top.
Turns out there was basically a tie. Boringly, the two winners — based only on The Number of Times Used (rather than Levels of General Excitement) — was this microneedling set (coming in at a cool four times per week) and this pair of underwear (which should’ve edged out the microneedler since I wear them 100% of the time…as long as a clean pair is available. The fact that they’re tied says something about how often we do laundry.)
Okay then.
But I suspect I’m relying too heavily on the data instead of going with my gut. This activity (which I am clearly over-thinking) is really about helping us all identify the best Nordstrom Anniversary Sale buys before they sell out (based on what we’ve learned in the past). So if I focus on the pieces that, yes, I still use, but ones that still make me swoon…where am I?
Shoes. Turns out…SHOES.
My gray Vince sneaker boots — originally bought at the anniversary sale 5 years ago — are still going so strong that I just bought them in black a few months ago. (They’re currently sold out at Nordstrom, but you can find them on sale at Bloomingdale’s). I would LOVE to see them pop back into this year’s Anni sale. They’re so good — sleek and cool and comfortable — that I’ve completely stopped looking for chelsea boots. These Vince sneaker boots are my forever option. Once the catalog preview goes live on Friday, I’ll be stalking Nordstrom’s selection of Vince shoes to see if they’re there.
The other pair of shoes that I still swear by are those taupe booties from Lucky Brand. They’re such a win because they’re lower-heeled, completely walkable, and taupe just feels fresh (even four years later). Currently, this gray pair from Lucky Brand is the closest thing I could find…but I will be stalking the Anni sale for the best (and most walkable) taupe boots — the current selection available is here. Hmmm.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2020 Predictions?
In addition to the Vince sneaker boots that I’m crossing allllll my fingers for…I’m also really hoping that Nordstrom throws their Halogen cashmere turtleneck sweater into the mix. I named it as my favorite black turtleneck sweater this past winter, and, with Anni sale prices, would be easy to snap up two:one for everyday, and one for sweatpants and art projects at home. The sweater isn’t currently on Nordstrom’s site…but here’s the link to stalk.

Call me boring, but I’m looking for a really good deal on a quality pair of jeans. I love the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for their prices on denim…and last year my two “big” denim purchases were these AG skinny ankle jeans (I like that they aren’t super tight around the bottom) and their ex-boyfriend fit (a perfectly slouchy but not sloppy fit).
I’m also hoping for their usual markdowns on some Barefoot Dreams favorites because those cardigans?? Incredibly soft and comfy and they last for years. I have the black but I’m loving that “silver pearl” color…

My favorite purchase from the Nordstrom Sale has been this amazing knit blazer by Gibson. I love love the white for a sporty, fresh look but it comes in a few other colors, too. The navy would be so good paired with denim. This jacket is super-comfy and great for travel, and kinda sharpens up any look.
I’m hoping to see some great straight leg jeans in a fabulous wash this year, like this pair from FRAME. I’m all about the straight leg these days for a departure from my Too Many Skinny Jeans Syndrome. Haha. Also, RIP this haircut from the spring…I miss it!

Jeans are always the first thing I look for during the Anniversary Sale. I always find at least one pair that I love and wear on heavy rotation all. year. long. Last year, these Topshop skinnies were a surprise favorite! Affordable and sooo flattering — I wore them all winter long with boots and then in the spring with Converse or sandals.
This year (aside from jeans, of course) I’m on the lookout for some kickass, high- quality leather combat boots like this pair by AllSaints that I can wear for years to come.

One of my favorite purchases ever from the Anni sale was a pretty white top. I could wear it with any of my cut-offs and favorite denim. It was easy, but made me feel so pretty! I have been looking high and low for its counterpart, but no luck yet…so, I am hoping that Nordstrom comes through for me during the sale. We shall see.
As for a prediction, hmmm. I’d have to say that there will probably be some fantastic shoe (like the one below), that is both super-cute and trendy, but also comfortable enough for everyday. Basically, it’ll be the shoe that usually sells out within 5 seconds, so…it’s always a fun race to ‘add to cart’…

One of my fav purchases from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has been this smocked floral tunic. Love the fall colors, love the pattern, love the comfiness, and love that it has often been my easy answer to so many “what should I wear?” situations. The one on the left below sold out super-fast last year, so hoping they will have more stock in Free People fun floral tunics and dresses this year.
My prediction (and hope) is this year’s sale also has some really good basics from EILEEN FISHER. I’m always thrilled to find high quality EILEEN FISHER “forever closet pieces”, and last year’s pieces below on the right did not disappoint.

This will come as a surprise to no one, but my most beloved Nordstrom Anniversary Sale find is this ALLSAINTS Lia Mac Trench Coat. I’m majorly hoping it’ll come ’round again, because it’s SUCH a classic style, the drape is insanely flattering, and the cost per wear is down to just about nil at this point. Can’t wait, you say? Well, if you can make do with an insanely pretty blush color, it’s on sale at ALLSAINTS for 60% off as we speak! (TTS – the fit is intentionally oversized.)
And, like the rest of the world, I’m most anticipating the super shoe steals featured in this year’s sale. Just about the only pair of shoes missing from my current little footwear capsule (OK, it’s not so little) is a pair of Dr. Martens, and these Dr. Martens 1460 Pascal Front Zip Boots have all the classic styling of the originals with the added edginess (and hello — convenience factor!!!) of a zippered front opening. Zero laces to deal with! In my world, that multiplies their wearability loads. Fingers crossed!

Every year that I shop the Nordstrom Anni sale, I find so many amazing things! I usually walk away with a ton of shoes. Last year, my favorite finds had to be these platform Chuck sneakers and a trendy Champion sweatshirt like this Champion x Sesame Street cropped sweatshirt (right up my alley). I always find great staple pieces from Leith and, of course, some Good American jeans.
This year, I’m hoping to see more sustainable options available for plus-size. I love the sustainable fashion moment that we’ve been having and am so excited that more and more brands are offering inclusive sizing as well. I love Reformation and I’m hopeful they’ll have some stellar dresses to snag in the sale like the one I’m wearing below.

What are your hopes and predictions for the upcoming Anniversary Sale?
Xo,
Team TME
S, I’ve been eyeing those Vince sneakers all summer. Can you tell me what size you purchased? I’m thinking these would be great to wear with my Smartwool socks. Thanks
Does anyone still pine for a past Anni sale item that got away? Mine is this oversize cashmere waffle knit sweater that sold out during the last Icon sale period and never came back in stock in my size: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/nordstrom-signature-oversize-cashmere-sweater/5430688 Would have been perfect to cozy up in during our prolonged quarantine times. Interested to hear if anyone else has fashion white whales from past sales that they still remember?
YES!!!! Remember that Joie cardigan with the faux-fur trim? I actually bought it…then RETURNED it and have regretted that decision ever since.
Those All Saints combat boots are so uncomfortable. I had to return them.
Just realizing how much I miss Shana’s bangs–so beautiful : )!
If it makes you feel any better I bought that waffle knit sweater and immediately returned it. I was also obsessed with how it looked in the picture but it didn’t look or feel as I had hoped. My favorite Nordstrom signature sweater was from the previous year – an olive mock neck asymmetrical hem cashmere sweater. Still one of my favorite pieces and loved it so much I bought the gray one too. I still have those taupe Lucky booties but I never wear them anymore and was debating putting them up on Poshmark. Shana, do you still often wear yours?
I’m going to buy boots/booties. I just want to know what is going to look best with mom jeans in winter??? Is it going to be a mid sock bootie? I’m really stumped. I can always throw on a short, waterproof UGG boot or Sorel wedge (which I’ve purchased per TME suggestions!:) but what about when I want to step it up a notch? I’m finally getting away from skinnies, but don’t know about this winter shoe sitch. I live in Ohio and it’s gonna get cold. Looking forward to the options and TME coverage of the sale.:)
I’m hoping for the Vince sneaker boots, too! I know I would wear them all the time, so I’m hoping to be able to get them this year. The other thing I’m hoping for is that the True Bras are included. I’m a recent convert and I’d love to stock up on all the colors. They’re so good!!!
