The Polka Dot Dress: A Perfect Summer-To-Fall Transition Piece

“POLKA DOTS ARE SO IN RN”…or so says The Mighty Style Forecasters.

Are polka dots ever really out? I guess I find it a little humorous, just because they’re one of those patterns that showed up on the scene and then never really left. A classic print that just keeps on keepin’ on.

I think I get it, though…all smirks aside. While the classic polka dot has never really been shoved waaaay back into the old style archive, lately it does seem to have had a resurgence of sorts. I mean, the dotted print is on everything — from shoes to skirts to sweaters…and while that’s not necessarily *new*, the polka dotted print is being mixed in with the “unorthodox”, so to speak…and I LOVE THAT. It’s what makes it something new and exciting.

So when I came across this pretty, Summer-like dotted dress, I didn’t hesitate to grab it and go (I paid for it. Don’t worry). I had seen that Polka Dots Are A Thing, so I was excited by the idea of styling it as a transitional piece — with stuff I wouldn’t usually default to when working with the classic print. I pulled out a sweater, denim jacket, polka dot sneaks (heck yes), some majorly edgy booties and whoah, ladies… you won’t even believe it…a leather jacket. Craaaazyyyyy, Cams. Just crazy.

Well, hey. Mighty Style Gods, I ain’t hatin’ this fresh little take on the polka dot.

Three Ways To Wear Polka Dot Dresses This Fall

1. Polka Dot Dress + Slouchy Cardigan

Outfit Details

dress: Stripe Tie Front Midi Dress (wearing S) – cutest dress. I like that I can dress it up or down, depending on the occasion. I have worn it with black polka dot Supergas…and YESSS.

cardigan: Chelsea28 Oversize Open Cardigan (no longer available) – A&F has a Textured Open Front Cardigan that looks cozy and would layer well over a dress.

backpack: Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack – my particular one is sold out, but I have had my eye on the putty Julian for a long time. It’s a versatile color to wear any day. Ya know, though…I have been noticing the Bree Convertible Backpack…and it comes in a putty white as well.

sunglasses: BP. Sunglasses (no longer available) – honestly, I prefer these Cat Eye Sunglasses. The pair I’m wearing in the pictures feel weird…not on, but the finish on them. I can’t explain it. They feel cheap.

shoes: Steve Madden Viienna Sandal (TTS) – have had for a few years and never stop appreciating them. They have the perfect heel height, are comfortable and easy.

2. Polka Dot Dress, Sneakers + Denim Jacket

The mix of polka dot prints is so ever-loving cool. I am obsessed and want to wear them every day now for errands, school stuff and weekends. It’s like print mixing, but also matching…love it.

3. Polka Dot Dress + Moto Jacket

We’ve had the leather moto jacket chat many times on TME meetings, because a lot of people don’t seem to know when to wear them…without looking like they’re trying too hard? Well, let me be the one to say…you wear it with everything — any time. Also, if it’s with a pretty dress you get bonus points. It’s really the perfect mix of edge + fem. You can’t hate an epic white bootie, either (mine have white studs, ladies. I mean…).
