If you’re anything like me, your summer schedule is probably already getting filled up with family events and weekend road trips, aaaand the season hasn’t even arrived yet. When I’m dressing for these occasions (and packing for the fun getaways), I prefer sticking to the essentials. You know, those classic tops and fave comfy denim shorts that can all be mixed and matched for easy dressing.
Naturally, I knew Gap would crush it in this area.
Denim Shorts & Cute Tops: Gap Is A Go-To For Classic Summer Outfits
The denim shorts selection is where I went first, and I swear Gap is making something for ev-er-y-one. High-, low- AND mid-rise, slim and loose fits, and all varieties of inseams. Gap is inclusive with their range of sizes, not to mention their consideration for petite and tall! (And let’s not forget about their Washwell program, which has allowed Gap to save millions of liters of water compared to traditional methods. Major yesss all around.)
Gap’s High-Rise Cheeky Midi Shorts & Crinkle Gauze Tops Are My Favorite
These 6″ High Rise Cheeky Midi Shorts are the perfect combination of all the things I’ve been looking for in denim shorts. They’re longer in the leg, but not quite so long that they’re a full bermuda style. They hit just at my belly button, and while the leg is a looser fit, they still fit snug in the waist and booty. All my favorite things!
I just about squealed in delight when I found Gap’s Crinkle Gauze tops. I’ve been on a real-deal hunt for these, and this one is everything. The sleeves are my favorite part. They’re almost whimsical in how they come to a dramatic point, and the back dips slightly longer than the front.
The top is super-soft, and thanks to that natural crinkle I don’t have to worry about folding it up for summer getaways or throwing it on the sand during beach days. I sized up to an XL (normally wear medium/large) as I wanted it to be extra roomy. It’s perfection.
The Low Stride Shorts Are A Modern Twist On A Classic Style (+ Available In Colors, Too)
Gap has those quintessential cut-offs I’m always searching for every summer, and with the low-rise they feel like a modern twist on a classic style. But don’t be scared, the actual rise is very modest (not at all the underwear-showing version of my teenage years).
Gap is truly capturing the spirit of summer with their fun, bold color options. I had to have this “India pink” color in the shorts (they’re available in blue denim and black washes, too) and they’re a fun pairing with the “sugar pink” 100% Organic Cotton Racer Back Tank.
The tank is super-soft, and I’m obsessed with the curved hemline on the scoop neck.
The Low Stride Shorts are a loose fit, relaxed through both the hip and leg (hello, extra comfortable and casual fit). They’re 100% cotton which means no stretch, BUT if you stick to your true size, the natural loose fit makes them easy to wear from day one.
The hem looks like it was just perfectly cut so that over time with both wear and wash the fray will release more, making them look perfectly worn-in.

Gap’s Denim Shorts Pair Perfectly With Their 100% Organic Cotton Vintage Tees
I had a feeling I would love the Low Stride Shorts, so naturally I ordered them in another wash. The black are a wardrobe workhorse. They can be paired with nearly any top in your summer wardrobe, but my daily choice is a comfy tee — and Gap’s 100% Cotton Vintage T-Shirts are fantastic.
I purchased one of Gap’s 100% cotton tees last year in grey, and it’s easily one of my most-worn from my T-shirt collection. It has the illusion of being a fitted tee while actually having a relaxed fit that isn’t clingy to my midsection (hallelujah). There are SO many color choices and even a few fun patterns!
The vintage tee is also my ideal length to wear with denim. It doesn’t cover my bum but it’s long enough for easing tucking (even into low rise shorts).
And the shorts? Yep, they’re just as good in the black wash as they are in the pink. These are going to look incredible as that frayed hem continues to wear in!
