Bold, casual and a little fancy…with a side of grunge? I think this is a new way of describing my own style, and I’m here for it. You may have noticed I’ve been adding a bit more color to my wardrobe lately…but trying to keep it still feeling like me.
I think it’s a super-fun combo…bold colors and patterns mixed with chunky boots, plaids, denim and obvs some animal print for good measure. If chic grunge rock can be a thing, count me in.
Mix Up Your Fall Wardrobe: Fancy + Elevated Meets ’90s Grunge
Saks is always known for its beautifully high-end clothing from fabulous designers. Whenever I want something really phenomenal from one of my favorites, I know where to look. But leveling up my everyday wardrobe and definitely giving it a refresh for fall are also very easily done there, and great jeans and chunky boots are a mainstay in my closet, so I know grabbing some really high-quality pieces will serve me well for years.
I love investing in quality denim, a great pair of boots, and a statement jacket or coat…then using each of those pieces to make the rest of my closet feel totally updated. Layering in some “elevated grunge” type of pieces, like that Free People shacket and the MOTHER graphic tee, speaks to my ’90s-loving heart.

1. Sam. Isabel Vegan-Leather Down Puffer Jacket
Beautiful. This color. Shana adores her Sam. coats. The rich shade of this puffer jacket is perfect for adding some chic warmth into an existing wardrobe.
2. Ulla Johnson Umbra Printed Belted Coat
Simply gorgeous and statement-making, this coat can go over literally anything and make it shine. Ulla Johnson creates the most stunning pieces.
3. Farm Rio Ainika Tapestry Cardigan
Farm Rio is one of our team-favorite brands, and this belted cardigan shows off what makes this line so amazing: bright bold pops of color and tastefully mixed prints. LOVE this!
4. MOTHER The Dazzler Mid-Rise Stretch Straight-Leg Ankle Jeans
They had me at “stretch” here, honestly. This fabulous pair of black straight-leg jeans would be super-wearable all winter and has the signature MOTHER Denim back pockets, which never disappoint in the booty-flattering department.
5. Ulla Johnson Etna Leather Lace-Up Boots
Gah. The details on these leather Ulla Johnson boots and the color combo — they are unlike any other lug-sole boots I’ve laid eyes on lately. They are an investment to be sure, but they’re easily outfit-making and definitely classic enough to wear for years and years.
6. Ulla Johnson Hilma Tiger Jacquard Bucket Bag
Seriously…this Ulla Johnson bucket bag. There is also a smaller shoulder-bag option that is just as gorgeous.
7. AGOLDE Wyman Low-Rise Vintage Straight Jeans
Digging the shape of these AGOLDE low-rise jeans (one of our go-to sustainable denim brands). They’d look so rad with chunky lug-sole boots.
8. Free People Ruby Plaid Longline Shacket
OK, click through the pics to see this plaid Free People shacket on the model. It honestly works like a light coat and looks really cool. I’d layer it under my favorite camel coat as the weather cools down even more.
9. Mother Boxy Goodie Goodie Tee
I’m always down for a little graphic pop in the form of a cool T-shirt. The colors in this one and the faded black do not disappoint. MOTHER Denim makes some of the very best graphic tees that fit like a dream.
10. Schutz Mikki Leather Ankle Booties
Yep, sexy. Schutz makes incredible boots, and I’m loving this classic, sleek pointed-toe ankle bootie in go-with-everything black.
11. UGG Classic Heritage Mini II
You can never go wrong with a good pair of sheepskin-lined UGG Minis every fall and winter seasons. This year I’m thinking black to go with the black jeans I’m craving to wear. These, black jeans, a graphic tee and the Free People shacket are an easy, comfy fall uniform. Going out with friends? Just swap out the UGGs for the sexy boots above.
Well, friends…I am loving this style. How are you elevating your wardrobe this fall? Let me know in the comments.
xo,
L
