It’s beginning to look a lot like…puffer-coat season!
I’ve always been a huge fan of puffer coats. I blame the OG, Jenny from the Block (Jennifer Lopez), for my love of puffers.
I vividly remember when “Get Right” dropped, and watching her dance in that sexy puffer coat with the fur hood did something for me. Between her, Britney and Christina, J.Lo is by far my favorite icon of the ’90s, and I was so heavily influenced by her fashion choices.
So, yes, yes, I did have a puffer coat with a fur hood that I strutted around in throughout high school.
This season’s puffer-coat trends might not have the fur, but they do feel reminiscent of the early 2000s. Even though I absolutely do not need another winter coat, I’m too tempted by the trendy colors and styles of puffer coats I found when I took a deep dive on Nordstrom’s website.
4 Plus-Size Puffer Jackets + Coats: Total Bangers + Some Disappointments
I found some seriously stellar options for all the plus-size baddies who are looking for a great winter puffer, and I wanted to try them on IRL to see if the online hype was as real in person. And, of course, there are some serious bangers and a few that I don’t care for at all.
Let’s get into the nitty-gritty, shall we?!
1. GANNI Oversized Hooded Puffer Coat: Pretty In Pink
My love for GANNI runs deep! In fact, my favorite winter jacket I bought last season is a GANNI cropped military-style winter jacket. It’s absolute perfection and still something I’ve been wearing regularly now that it’s cold again.

While GANNI does offer plus-size selections, its jackets tend to fit me in size 44, which is a US size 14/16. Even though the oversized hooded puffer coat technically isn’t available in plus sizes, I absolutely adore this jacket and decided to give it a try.
It’s so damn cute, but I wish there was one size larger so it could fit me more comfortably.

The pink color is fun and perfect for anyone looking to achieve the Barbiecore look, and I absolutely love the exaggerated detailing of the pockets and utility-style zippers.
This puffer coat is truly a work of art, and TBH, I do think it’s worth the price tag. Not to mention it’s oh-so-warm, and the zippers on the side are an added bonus to help those who fluctuate in size or accommodate a bump if you’re pregnant.

If it weren’t for my slight issue with it being too small, this puffer would’ve 100% been a keeper for me. I love everything about this gorgeous, pretty-in-pink puffer!
3. The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket: A Li’l Basic
Truth be told, I have never been the biggest fan of The North Face. It was pretty late to the game when it came to entering plus-size attire, and I find that its jackets and puffers never quite fit me correctly.
Though, I have to say…if you’re a Gucci fan like I am, then you might want to peak at the North Face x Gucci collaboration because it’s very, very pretty! Anyway, I digress…

The North Face Nuptse down puffer jacket is just OK for me. It’s definitely warm, and the black color is such a classic. I ordered this in a size 3X, and I have too much space in the arms and not quite enough space around my hips.
Yes, it fits. Yes, it zips. Yes, it’s a perfectly fine winter puffer coat…if you’re looking for something basic.

The puff of this coat is definitely substantial as well, and it has the most heft of all the puffer coats I tried on. While I won’t be keeping this jacket, I do think it would be just fine for anyone looking for a warm and dependable winter coat.
3. Avec Les Filles Water-Resistant Hooded Puffer Jacket: Immediately Yes
Avec Les Filles has seriously been winning the winter-coat game for several years now, and again it’s the champ of the season for me! When I tell you I LOVE this puffer jacket, I mean I really, truly, 💯 percent, rip-off-the-tags-immediately LOVE this coat.

First off, it’s a cropped puffer jacket, which you all know is my thing! If any top, sweater or jacket comes cropped, you better believe I’m most likely going to love it. The fabric is so soft and smooth, and the color…GAHHHH, I LOVE IT!

I never really considered myself a girlie who likes brown shades but have recently been very attracted to this colorway. I love that this water-resistant puffer has a hood and is lined with this ultra-fun metallic-gold fabric that actually further insulates the jacket.

4. Bernardo Recycled Puffer Trench Coat: Kinda Disappointing
If a quilt and a robe were to have a baby, it would be the Bernardo recycled puffer trench coat. I purchased this puffer in particular because it was the more affordable dupe to the puffer I was actually dreaming about from Marina Rinaldi. But because I didn’t want to drop $800+ on a trendy puffer coat, I opted to just give Bernardo’s long puffer a try, and TBH, I’m pretty disappointed.

I’m wearing this trench coat in a size 3X, and it doesn’t button around my midsection. It just goes to show that sizing is vastly different from brand to brand, because the Avec Les Filles was in an XXL and the GANNI an L/XL, both of which worked much better for me than a traditional 3X in plus size.

This trench is hella warm, which I like, but it truly feels like too much to handle. The nearly floor-length puffer just isn’t my vibe and doesn’t fit to my liking.
Well, I can safely say I’m adding at least one new puffer coat to my already extensive winter-coat collection, and I’m so happy about it! I’d love to hear from you all: What coats you are looking to add to your wardrobe this season?
Ta-ta for now!
